Aquila: Indeed it was. But, before we talk about that, we have a sponsor!
K: Again.
A: Indeed. Isn’t it great?
K: How do they keep finding us?
A: Not a clue. But, this time, I was extra careful. Not only did I write it down, I put it in this box you gave me and locked it up tight. So, it won’t be accidentally given to anybody – we have it right here, in this box.
K: Okay. So, unlock the box and tell us who our sponsor is!
A: I would be delighted to – please hand me the key!
K: Um...I thought you had it.
A: I gave it to you. At least, I’m pretty sure I did.
K: Oh. Should we just break the lock?
A: And ruin such a nice box? Just look at how lovely this box is – and you gave it to me! We are not damaging this box.
K: So our sponsor could be anybody.
A: Yes, today we are sponsored by...it could be anybody. It could be you!
K: It’s probably not them.
A: But it could be – only the box knows!
K: So let’s move on to Rebel Moon.
A: Look in awe at the awesome mystery of the identity of our sponsor!
K: Moving on, I really liked Rebel Moon. It was a fun adventure along the lines of Seven Samurai, but with a nice twist at the end.
A: I think the movie Captain Infinite would compare it to is The Magnificent Seven.
K: Either way, it told its story well. The visuals were just amazing.
A: I loved the opening shot – those rings were stunning. And I loved Kora as a character. I want to know her secret...was she the one who killed the royal family, or was she framed for it?
K: I imagine the next movie will tell us. And the conflict is very down to earth. It’s not trying to save the galaxy, just one farming community filled with good people.
A: That said, they really are missing the obvious solution.
K: Oh?
A: They just need to grow man-eating plants.
K: Man-eating plants?
A: Absolutely. Think of the possibilities, Kasumi! The Motherworld’s troops land, step onto the grass, and it eats them. No fuss, no need to go looking for mercenaries – just sit back, relax, and let the plants take care of it.
K: Where are they going to get carnivorous grass.
A: They’re farmers. They’ll just breed the grass to be extra hungry.
K: I’m pretty sure farming doesn’t work that way.
A: Sure it does! Why do you think there are so many types of various vegetables? Farmers engage in a sort of selective breeding to get the characteristics they want out of what they grow. If it can work for potatoes, it can work for grass too. You just grow the grass to encourage the characteristic of eating people.
K: Um...
A: It’s basically just eugenics with plants, really.
K: Right...and how do the farmers make sure the plants don’t eat them?
A: Well, that’s simple enough. They just need to not be tasty.
K: And how do they do that?
A: Breed the grass so that it doesn’t like the taste of them. It’s quite obvious and logical, you know.
K: And what about the time it would take? You’re talking about multiple generations of plants.
A: It’s the future! They could probably do it in a couple of days if they had thought of the idea.
K: Okay then...wrapping up, who is your candidate for best girl.
A: The griffin.
K: You mean the one Tarak tames?
A: I loved her feathers.
K: So, to sum up, we liked Rebel Moon, and apparently the farmers need to invest in grass...

NOTE: This series is now on hiatus as Aquila and Kasumi go on their new adventure.
Aquila is a former god of destruction with light blue hair, along with a penchant for military coats and popped collars, who waged a personal war against the world of her creator. Kasumi is her creator, who Aquila saved through a miracle and is now Aquila’s partner in all things. Now that Aquila has atoned for her actions, she and Kasumi are touring the story worlds with their friends...while taking a bit of time to watch some TV and movies.
Come join Aquila and Kasumi on the couch for a nice chill chat as they talk about the latest thing they’ve sat down and enjoyed.
WARNING: There will be spoilers.
New episodes every other Saturday.
AUTHOR’S NOTE: All of the media Aquila and Kasumi review here I consider to be good and worth watching. I do not like the current mean-spiritedness that pervades pop culture discourse, and as such I never want to use these characters to tear down or encourage hate watching a show. It’s meant to be good natured fun, and that’s all there is to it.
