William Grimwood
Death was imminent. I could feel it. It worried me but it worried me much more that they would see my feelings. Shaking my head I steeled myself, they mustn’t see me waver, if I were to they would follow suit. I was to serve as the backbone of our group, I couldn’t fail my job, not at this time nor place. Shaking off the blood on my longsword I walked to the tent.
Inside Raven and Lucian had entered a heated discussion.
‘I do not like this,’ Lucian said, tapping the pile of papers to Ravens left. He grabbed the papers and flicked through them. ‘Assassination plots? Blackmailing? My, my Raven, what have you been getting up to?’
Raven slumped into his chair and sighed.
‘Stop playing dumb Lucian. You participated before.’
‘Before!’ He exclaimed.
‘I am simply paying the lord back. He took us in after all. It is only right that I do what he requests.’ Raven said calmly.
‘Murder? Treason? When does it stop?’
I cleared my throat. The two looked up sharply.
‘Didn’t we get taught to knock?’ Lucian said scowling. He had always worshiped good etiquette.
Raven Raptor
Frozen, I stared at William. His face showed no emotion, no shock, no surprise, no anger. Somehow it scared me more.
‘William, make sure no one hears of this,’ I hissed, a hint of desperation arised in my voice.
‘Raven I assure you no one else will hear of it. Regardless we all have participated in the lords antics,’
‘That was when we were children, William,’ Lucian said sharply, ‘Just because we did it as children doesn’t mean we can excuse this behavior today.’
‘But we had to do these things to survive, I am sure Raven is doing them for the same reason,’
‘Well is that true?’ Lucian looked straight in my eyes. I faltered then nodded slowly. Lucian raised an eyebrow but said nothing.
‘Then I shall be back at a better time,’ William stalked off, his expression never changing.
‘Really, for your survival?’ Lucian scoffed, ‘Please, you are doing this because you want to.’
‘Want to? I am not doing this because I want to!’ I thumped the table. Lucian looked at me wide eyed. I never lost my temper. When I calmed down I managed to choke out a sentence. ‘I am doing this because it is right,’ Then it was his turn to lose his temper.
‘KILLING PEOPLE IS NOT RIGHT!’ He yelled, ‘IT NEVER WILL BE!’
‘And killing giants are?’ I snapped.
‘They are killing people, so many people, they must be stopped,’ He hissed, ‘And so must you.’
