Several police cruisers with loud sirens rush through the streets at a very high speed.
"Any info on the victim?" said Nam-gil while driving.
"Nothing yet captain. "
Dae-jung who was sitting on the passenger seat was leaning on the window and had a very depressed look on his face and said, " Hey Hwan?..."
"What?"
"Why does life have to be so cruel?"
" Are you serious right now dude?!"
"Leave him be, Hwan. We all feel the same from the inside," said Nam-gil.
"Well, I won't argue with that cap-"
The two-way radio on Nam-gil's vest interrupted the conversation. "This is officer Byung-ho reporting, does anyone copy?"
"This is Captain Nam-gil, I copy. Byung-ho, I want you to give a brief report of the situation currently."
"I'm still working on securing the crime scene captain. There is a huge crowd of people here who are trying to get in."
"How many officers are there with you right now?"
"It's only me captain."
"Hang in there. We're almost there." Nam-gil steps on the accelerator speeding off at more than 80km/h with other police cruisers following behind.
Meanwhile,
"All passengers, May I kindly have your attention? We will be arriving at Incheon station shortly. We hope you had a delightful journey with us. Thank you."
"About damn time. I feel ridiculously tired after sitting at one place for 3 hours straight," said Park Min-young.
At the crime scene,
"HEY! LET US IN DAMNIT. WE NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED."
"Everyone please calm down and try to understand. This area is off-limits right now."
A huge crowd of people was trying to barge into the crime scene. The only thing standing in between them and the crime scene was Byung-ho who was desperately trying to push the crowd back. Just then several police cruisers arrive at the crime scene. All police officers in the police cruisers rush in to help Byung-ho.
Talking through a megaphone, Nam-gil said, "ALL CITIZENS PRESENT HERE. I KINDLY REQUEST YOU COOPERATE WITH US AND PLEASE MOVE ASIDE. AND PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE THE AREA. I REPEAT, ALL CITIZENS PRESENT HERE. I KINDLY REQUEST YOU COOPERATE WITH US AND PLEASE MOVE ASIDE. AND PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE THE AREA."
The crowd immediately begins to disperse. Nam-gil orders Ji-won and Dae-jung to note down all the names and contact details of the people that were present there. "And don't leave a single person."
"Yes sir!"
The remaining officers begin to secure the perimeter. Amid all the chaos that was taking place, Byung-ho finally took a sigh of relief.
"You okay buddy?" asked Nam-gil.
"Yeah...I'm good...just...need to catch my breath."
"Where's the body?"
"In the house behind me. I didn't see it with my own eyes though. When I arrived here there was already a huge crowd standing outside the house. Everyone first moved aside. The door was already open which I found very strange. So I went in but came out immediately."
"Why?"
"There was a terrible smell. Almost like a rotting corpse."
Nam-gil turns towards the forensic team and gives them a nod. The forensic team was the first to go inside followed by Nam-gil, Hwan, and a few other officers.
"God that smell...", Do-yun complained.
"Hwan, go fetch a few pairs of masks and rubber gloves from one of the cars outside," Nam-gil ordered.
"Yes...Yes sir!" Hwan immediately runs outside and searches for the nearest trash can and begins to vomit. He then goes to one of the police cruisers and grabs a bottle of water from inside to wash his mouth. He then takes one of the masks and puts it on and then grabs a few more pairs and runs back in. Ji-won observes this and says, "I've got a really bad feeling about this."
Trying to hold back his vomit, Do-yun says, "This whole house stinks."
"But where is the body?" asked Byung-ho.
One of the members of the forensic team calls out to the captain. "THIS WAY CAPTAIN. WE'VE FOUND THE BODY." Nam-gil along with other officers was led into the room where the body was found. There laid a motionless body of a naked woman on the bed. The corpse was being observed by the leader of the forensic team Chan-yeol.
Nam-gil took a deep breath. "So what can you make of it so far?"
"Time of death was about twenty-six hours ago."
"And the cause of death?"
"For now it looks like rape. But I can't confirm it. There are marks on her wrists. She was probably tied to something. I can't say anything else. For more information, I will have to perform a proper autopsy."
"I see..."
Hwan arrives and hands out a pair of gloves and a mask to all the officers. Nam-gil takes a pair and puts it on and says, "It definitely is rape." Hwan stares at the body and clenches his fists. His eyes were filled with anger.
"You okay dude?" asked Do-yun.
"Yeah...I'm fine."
Hwan was normally a very cool-minded person. For him to react in such a way was very rare. Only a few officers including Nam-gil, Dae-jung, Do-yun, and Ji-won know the reason why Hwan reacted the way he did.
"Something just doesn't make sense," said Nam-gil.
"What?" asked Do-yun very curiously.
"It takes around 2-3 days for a corpse to begin smelling. But it has just been a day since this woman died. So where is the smell coming from?"
Everyone agreed with Nam-gil. They too were puzzled about this matter.
"Is there another body in this house?" asked Hwan.
"Split up and search immediately!" Nam-gil ordered his men. " Hwan, you search the top floor. Byung-ho, you and I will search the basement. Do-yun, search the backyard. Is that clear?"
"YES SIR!"
Meanwhile,
"Is that everyone?" asked Dae-jung.
"Yep!" said Ji-won.
Dae-jung and Ji-won were done with their work of collecting all the contact details of the people who were present there. One of them walked toward Ji-won and asked, "Umm sir?"
"Yes?"
"May I know why you collected our contact details? I mean...you don't suspect us, do you?"
"Not exactly. It's not that we suspect you people, of any sort of crime, at least for now. It's just that everyone here is a witness who could have crucial information which could help us, police officers. And guess what, if we crack the case you guys can even get a reward."
"I-I see...I'll be on my way then."
Ji-won gives him a nod.
"Well let's head inside then," said Dae-jung.
"Yep!"
The two head inside. However, the second they step inside the house the awful smell of a rotting corpse hits their nose. "HOLY HELL!!! *almost vomits* I think we should wear masks," said Dae-jung.
"Yeah....that's a good idea *almost vomits*."
Nam-gil and Byung-ho who were searching the basement didn't seem to find anything. "I think we're searching in the wrong place captain," said Byung-ho.
"You're right. Even the smell is weaker in here."
Do-yun speaks through the two-way radio saying, "Uhhh captain?.... I found the body."
