After a few minutes of awkwardness, the crowd got off on the next platform. Ji-Eun finally got some breathing room. She sighed and then thought to herself, "I...I...I touched his...I touched his abs!" Her face was still very red. However, Min-young paid no attention to it.
There were a few minutes of silence between the two. Ji-Eun didn't even dare to look up at Min-young. Finally, Min-young got off the train. He turned back and waved to Ji-Eun and she waved back. She then took a deep breath. She had this constant feeling that she had met Min-young somewhere before. She then tried to remember but her stomach started growling. She decided to let go of this matter. She arrived at her house after half an hour and knocked on the door.
Her mother opened the door and let her in. "How was your day?" she asked.
"A lot happened. In short, I went to the police station today almost being locked up in a jail cell. But somehow, I managed to convince them to let me go."
Ji-Eun's mother laughed, "Why? Did you beat those cops up today?"
"How does this woman know?!" Ji-Eun thought to herself.
"I'm not surprised because it's not the first time you've said such things."
"So you're saying it was just a guess?... Well, that's a relief."
"Anyway, freshen up, and then we'll have dinner together."
"Okay. Did dad come back from work yet?"
"He came back an hour ago. Speaking of which, why are you so late today? You usually arrive before your dad."
"As I said, a lot happened today." Ji-Eun went to her room to freshen up. As she went upstairs, she couldn't shake away the thought of what happened on the train. Even at the dinner table, she kept thinking about it. "What's wrong?" asked Ji-Eun's dad.
"Huh? N-Nothing!"
"Then explain why your face is red."
Ji-Eun had no excuse for it. "Fine...There's this guy I met today okay...and...I..."
"Go on"
"I accidentally..."
"You accidentally what?"
"Well..."
"Spit it out!"
"I ACCIDENTALLY TOUCHED HIS ABS!!... There, You happy now?"
Ji-Eun's dad burst out in laughter. "WHAT'S SO FUNNY ABOUT IT?!" Ji-Eun screamed. "Y-You..*continues to laugh* " Ji-Eun began to get so angry that one of her veins was about to pop.
"Hey dad, do you want me to tell mom about what happened the other day?"
"Huh? What happened the other day?" Ji-Eun's mom asked.
"Ahem...Nothing happened dear. Anyway, who is this person you are talking about?"
Ji-Eun smirked, "I believe his name was...Park Min-young."
"Do you like this person?" asked Ji-Eun's mom laughingly.
"MOM!!" Ji-Eun got up irritated, picked up her dinner plate, and went to her room. Her mom burst out in laughter. "She's just like you when you were younger," said Ji-Eun's dad.
"Yeah...but what was she talking about when she said that she'd tell me what happened the other day?"
"Uhhh..." Ji-Eun's dad used every single brain cell he had to come up with a good excuse. "Well you see...the other day when some of my friends came over to celebrate my promotion, I accidentally dropped a little wine on the floor. I wiped as much as I could. There's just a small stane on that spot now. Nothing much."
"Hmmm..." Ji-Eun's mom stared at him suspiciously. He started sweating thinking his lie was caught.
"That's fine. Even I drop wine on the floor sometimes."
Ji-Eun's dad breathed out a sigh of relief as he had just escaped death's door. "I'm sorry honey, but I can't tell you that the flower vase in the living room is broken," he murmured to himself.
"Did you say something?"
"Huh? N-no I didn't!"
At Min-young's house.
After having dinner, Min-young decided to open up certain boxes which had the things he needed for the moment. The boxes he opened had parts of a chair, a table, his laptop, a coffee machine, a printer, a soft board, and a bunch of stationery items. He began to assemble the chair and table and placed them in his room. He unplugged his phone from the charging cable and unlocked it. He then saw a notification of an unknown number sending him a message. The unknown number belonged to Ji-Eun. She sent him the photo a few minutes ago. Min-young forwarded the photo to Nam-gil telling him to identify the two people in the photo.
He then contacted a person whose number was saved by the name 'Jae'.
"Hello?"
"Yeah, it's me. I sent you an email that has a list of names in it. I want you to find out everything about that person and their family, friends-"
"I know the drill dude. Why do you only call me when you need such things."
"I'm sorry okay? I'm busy with work."
"And you think I'm not? Look man I know you're a police officer. But I'm a...Sorry, I can't be saying this stuff on phone, but you get the point right?"
"Okay fine...Let's catch up after I'm done with this case."
"Alright. I'll send you the info in a few minutes."
Min-young then hangs up and then takes the copy of the forensic report. He began to go through the report thoroughly to see if he missed any details. A normal person would be unpacking all the boxes. However, to Min-young, solving the case was always his top priority.
It was 10:39 p.m. At this time Ji-Eun was lying on the roof of her house, staring at the night sky. Her mother also came up on the roof and sat beside her. "What's on your mind?" she asked.
"The dude I told you about."
"Who? Min-young?"
"Yeah him."
"Tell me one thing."
"What?"
"Do you like him or not?"
"Like him? Hell no! I'll admit, he's got a nice body and a handsome face. But his personality is absolute garbage."
"Then why can't you stop thinking about him?"
"It's because I feel like I know him."
"Ahh, So that's how it is. Maybe he's an old childhood friend of yours? Or even a school friend? But I suggest you stop thinking about it and go get some sleep instead."
"Yeah okay. But I want to stay here for the time being."
"Okay, but don't stay up too late. I'm off to sleep. Goodnight."
"Goodnight mom."
After some time, Min-young got an email from Jae which had all the information he requested for. He opened one of the files and printed out all the pictures in it. The file had all the information about Kim Ha-rin. He stuck the picture of Kim Ha-rin on the soft board with a label saying 'Victim (deceased)'. He then went through the description of the deceased's family. It turned out that the deceased's parents died when she was only four years old in a plane crash. Since then she lived with her grandmother. The grandmother had heart issues and was on medication. Min-young then remembered that the case wasn't made public yet which means that the grandmother is still not aware of her grandchild's death. Min-young couldn't help but imagine what she would feel when she would receive this news.
The deceased had an ex-boyfriend who currently works in an art museum. His name is Liam Jong. Min-young stuck his photo on the board with the label ex-boyfriend.
There was also information regarding the deceased's bank account. It was written that there was a transfer of 88,207,900 won from her bank account to another. The transfer was made a few hours before the victim died. The name of the account was Sanguis Lunae. It was the first time Min-young heard this name. He wrote the name on the sticky note and stuck it on the board.
He then put all the information on the victim's body in small notes and stuck them on the board. He then stuck Gae Baek-hyun's photo on the board. He then began to look into the info he had on him. Gae Baek-hyun graduated from Yonsei university. He works as a biochemist in Bio-Tech, a company that develops medicines and lab equipment.
Min-young didn't find anything interesting in Gae Baek-hyun's family history. He then stuck a note on the board in which he wrote that the body was found in Gae Baek-hyun's house. After going through this information, Min-young had two questions: Why did the deceased transfer 88,207,900 won before she died? and to whom did the bank account named Sanguis Lunae belong?
Min-young thought that the motive for murder is something related to money. He still had a lot of information to go through, so he made himself a cup of coffee, preparing to stay up late.
As Ji-Eun was about to go to sleep, she thought about what her mom said, "Maybe he's an old childhood friend of yours? Or even a school friend? " She then immediately ran into her room, opened her cupboard, and took out a huge box that had several photo albums in it. She took out an album that was labeled 'School.' She began to flip through the pages. She stopped at the page on which all her school friends were there. They were all girls. Being disappointed, Ji-Eun was about to close the book when she noticed that in one of the photos there was a boy. She observed the photo. She then looked at the ID badge on the boy's shirt. She was surprised to see that the name written on it was Park Min-young. It was a photo of them together in middle school. Ji-Eun sat there dumbfounded, as all those old memories came rushing into her mind.
Ji-Eun turned to the next page. This page was only filled with photos of her and Min-young together. "Holy shit!..." she said.
It was 11:24 p.m when Min-young realized that his laptop's battery was dying. He remembered that the charger was still inside one of the boxes. He went to search for the charger in the box in which the laptop was kept. However, he didn't find it there. After this, Min-young had no choice but to open up all the boxes and search for the charger. He began opening up all the boxes, making a huge mess. He then stumbled on a box that didn't have a label on it. He opened it up and then saw that it was just a bunch of things he had when he was a kid. "Geez, I still have these things? I should probably sell them."
Just then he saw a small photo frame that was upside down in the box. He picked it up and looked at the photo. The second he saw the photo his eyes widened. It was a photo of him and Ji-Eun together.
"...And here I was, thinking of throwing it away."
The next morning.
Min-young who only got an hour of sleep woke up when he got a call from Nam-gil.
"Hello?"
"Come to the police station immediately."
"Did you find something?"
"I have identified the people in the photos you sent me. Aside from that we also found the person who reported the incident."
"Okay. Anything else?"
"There was also a transfer of 88,000,000 million won from the deceased's bank account. Plus the forensic report of the dog has been completed."
"Alright. I'm on my way." He hangs up.
Just then Min-young got another phone call. This time it was from Ji-Eun. He hesitated for a few seconds and then picked up the call.
"Hello?"
"I want to talk face to face."
"About what?"
"Look, I'm not sure if you remember but..."
"It's about us, isn't it?"
"How did you...?"
"I remember...everything."
Ji-Eun broke down in tears when she heard these words.
"Ji-Eun...I'm sorry I...couldn't recognize you before."
"I'm...I'm sorry too."
"You've changed a lot since middle school you know. Back then you were kind and forgiving. And now you have the guts to knock down three police officers."
Ji-Eun laughs, "You're one to talk, idiot."
"Yeah, I know. A lot happened after middle school. Things changed me. But you see, I really don't have the time for this now. I have a case to solve. So..."
"It's fine...We can catch up later after you're done."
"Yeah, that's a good idea."
"Bye."
"Bye."
