This falls into the same category as ‘Tinkerbell & The Real Fairies of New Jersey’ (see ACS #13). The garbage that is opiate for the masses passing as good television never ceases to disappoint. Those are not real people. Not real in a “you and me” sense. But what goads me more than anything is that it’s just dumb. Dumb programming gobbled up by a dumb audience. Why? Because we are lazy. We do not like to be challenged or have to think about things. We are, as the saying goes: “If you need constant entertainment, you are a boring person” (or something like that).
We are destined for lameness when shows like “The Bachelor” are running for multiple seasons. Minecraft Steve would serve as a much more effective example. Wake up…work…kill zombies and ginormous spiders…try to build shelter…mine for useful things…go to sleep…wash rinse and repeat. At least he’s doing something. He’s not sat upon his haunches, hypnotized by someone else’s fake “reality”.
Don’t get me wrong. I love smart, clever entertainment. Something with a great story to tell. But I can assure you, none of the things I watch are billed as “reality”. It’s imagination. One reason comic books have had such an impact is because they do not pretend to be real. They thrive on the big worlds and stories that minds are capable of creating.
***** You'll notice a gap between #3 and #12 - this is because my mini Batman web comic 'The Real Killing Joke' ran from #4 to #11. That series can also be found here on Tapastic *****
