The Awakening

Preparing for the Rescue

Preparing for the Rescue

Aug 23, 2024

Johnson returned to the safe house about 2 hours later. As he walked through the door, both Sarah and Ashley greeted him. "Did everything go as planned?" Ashley asked. "I believe so, I didn't run into any issues," Johnson replied. "Well since that is done we just need to wait for Jack to get back so we all can go over his findings," Sarah said, while sitting back down on the couch. All three of them waited around for about an hour before Jack returned.

When Jack walked through the door it was as if all of the color had drained from his face and his life force had been drained from his body. Jack walked in like a zombie to the chair next to Sarah and sat down. It was a long eerie silence before Sarah spoke, she turned to Jack placing his hands in hers, while Jack stared out at nothing, it was like he wasn't even there. "Jack what happened? Are you okay? Is Mike okay?" Sarah asked softly. Jack didn't respond and Sarah turned to look at both Ashley and Johnson, who both sat there with confused looks on their faces. "Jack can you hear me?" Sarah asked as she squatted down in front of him, waving her hand in his face. Jack finally broke his silence. He looked down at Sarah with a deep sense of sadness in his eyes, "I'm sorry Sarah," he said barely above a whisper."What happened?" What do you mean you're sorry?" Sarah asked urgently.

Jack looked up, "I found their hideout and Mike was there, badly injured and bloody, but I couldn't save him by myself, so I left him, they're more russian spies than we anticipated," Jack replied while fighting back the tears that welded up in the corner of his eyes. "It's okay Jack, you did good today. You found out where they are hiding, where Mike is, and that at the very least he is alive. That's all I could ask of you. Thank you Jack for putting your life on the line for me," Sarah said as she got up and hugged him. "Now all we need is a plan to save Mike and to take out the Russians spies before it's too late," Ashley replied sweetly, while patting Jack on the shoulder.

Sarah picked up her phone to call Director Birmingham. "Hello," he said very sleepily as he answered the phone. "Director we found them," Sarah slightly screamed through her phone. "Hmm?" "Wh.. what did you get?" The Director said groggily. "We got the location of their hideout," Sarah repeated. He leans up in his bed to fully wake himself up, taking a sip of water from the cup on his night stand, and looked at the time. "Ok ok let me make sure I heard you correctly. You have found where they are hiding?" The director asked, still trying to shake off the cob webs in his brain. "Yes that's correct."

"Jack tailed Amanda and was able to get the location and confirm that Mike is essentially still alive," Sarah said replying to his question. "We are going to need to act fast to save Mike as they plan on killing him tomorrow. Also the "accidents" for the remaining sleeper agents will start being discovered tomorrow as well," he stated. "Oh, we did get some additional information from Jack that there are more than just Amanda and the guy I met that are hiding out as well," she added. "We are going to need to adjust are plans, I'll be there first thing tomorrow morning," he promised. "Okay, I'll let the others know," Sarah said, as she hung up the phone. Sarah placed her phone back in her pocket and turned around to inform the others.

"The director will be here first thing in the morning to come up with a new plan to raid their hideout and rescue Mike," Sarah told them. "That's in a few hours," Ashley says while looking down at her watch. "How about we all get some sleep, it's been a long day, and we can all regroup tomorrow," Johnson added. "Sounds like a plan," both Sarah and Ashley replied. "Since it's late, you can stay in the room down the hall," Sarah said while pointing in the direction of the room. "Well thank you, I'll see all in the morning," Ashley says as she takes her leave.

Sarah turns to look at Jack, who was still sitting and not really mental there with them. "Im going to head to bed too," Johnson says as head towards his room. Sarah looked up at him and said "good night see you in the morning." Sarah proceeded to walk over to Jack and sat down right beside him. "Jack are you okay?" She asked, her voice gentle. Jack snapped out of his trance and looked at Sarah. "I'm sorry I couldn't save him and left him there, but if I tried I know we both wouldn't have made it out alive," Jack said somberly. Sarah gently placed her hands on his face, turning it towards her. "Is alright Jack. You were outnumbered. There would have been nothing you could have done, and I rather you came back safe and alive than you risk your life and his to try to get him out," Sarah said sweetly looking into his eyes.

"Don't beat yourself up about it, for now we know he is okay and when the Director gets here in the morning, we will devise a plan to recuse him and take them out," Sarah added. Jack hung his head low, as he was disgusted with himself for not being able to bring Mike back. Sarah placed both of her heads on his face, lifting it up to meet her gaze. "It's gonna be okay, we still have a chance to save him. Let's not give up on ourselves now," she said smiling brightly. Jack nodded his head in agreement, but in the back of his mind he hoped that Mike will still be alive when they go back, because if he wasn't he would be able to live with himself and he knew Sarah would never forgive him.

Jack got lost in Sarah's eyes for a few moments, finally taking her in. "Sarah that disguise is really good, you look different," he said with a half smile. "Oh you finally noticed," she said, as she blushed and began to laugh. "But your eyes tell me that you are still my Sarah," he says as he leans in closer. Sarah froze as her cheeks began to turn red and she quickly turned away. "Ok now," she softly laughed, as she placed her hands on her warm face. "It's time for us both to go to bed now," she said, her back still facing him. "Yeah you're right," Jack says as he walks over to her and hugged her from behind. "Thank you for being there for me," Jack says, as he embraces her.

Sarah froze as she didn't know what to do. She slowly removed his arms from around her and turned to face him, "you're welcome," she says with a smile. "Now I'm going to go to bed, I'll see you in the morning good night," she said, as she turned around and quickly walked to her room. Jack smiled as he watched her leave, "good night Sarah." Jack picked up his things and headed towards his room. Once Sarah got in her room she quickly closed the door, firmly pressing her back against it. "What was that?" "Does Jack like.... No no no," she says to herself as she walks towards the bed and goes to sleep.

A man was driving at 6am on his way to work, in his own little world. As he came up to the tunnel he could see a car, "I wonder what is going on with them," he says to himself. As soon as those words left his lips, he could see a person slumped over the steering wheel. He abruptly stopped his car causing his body to jerk forward. He pulled his car over and got out to see if the person is ok. As he got closer to the car he can see it's a woman and she isn't moving.

"Ma'am are you okay," the man says as he reaches out to tap her. As he leans in and touches her, her body stiffly falls over. The man yells "WHAT THE FUCK," and falls onto the ground trying to scoot away from the body. He quickly gets up, runs to his car and calls 911. "911 what's your emergency," the dispatcher says as they answer the phone. "There is a dead body!!" He yells into the phone. "Calm down sir, where are you?" "I'm in the car tunnel on 5th and Maine," he replied. "Okay, police are on their way," the dispatcher said before hanging up the phone.

The man then goes to his car to wait for the police, still in shock. Detective Jones and Detective James arrived on the scene about 30 minutes later, walking up to one of the police officers. "What did you find?" Detective Jones asked. "Well, the gentleman over there said he was on his way to work when he seen the car crashed into the wall. He proceeded to get out of his car and that's when he discovered this woman's dead body," one of the officer says while they walk towards the woman's car. "Do we know the cause of death?" Detective James asked.

"From the looks of it, it seems that she was intoxicated and crashed the car, but I won't know until I do a full autopsy," the police officer added. "Ok well let's secure the scene," detective jones said. Detective James walked around to the passenger side of car and started going through the scattered items. He picked up the ID he found and his eyes widen, "Jones!!!" he yelled. Jones ran over to where he was, "What.. What is it?" detective jones asked. "The dead woman is the woman we have been searching for," detective James says as he hands over the ID.

Detective Jones took the ID and looked it over. "This could possibly be ruled as a suicide, considering she probably felt she had no where to run and would rather end it all than be arrested or killed," Jones replied. "You're probably right, but we won't know if this is her until the autopsy report comes out," James said. Both detectives headed back to the precinct after looking over all the evidences, speaking to the witness, and checked the area out for any suspicious activity or cameras. Once they both got back to their desk, they jumped head first into their investigation. Detective James and detective Jones went through the evidence, witness statements, photos from the crime scene from harrington's office and under the tunnel.

They both were looking to see if they missed anything as both cases are linked to each other. "The autopsy results are out," the police coroner said. They both rushed over to the morgue, both on the edge of their seats. When they arrived, they immediately started asking questions. "Is this Sarah Jenkins?" Detective James asked. "What happened to her?" Detective Jones asked. "Were there any signs of foul play?" They both asked. "Now breathe, before you both pass out," the coroner said laughing. "What I found is that she died way before the car crash from alcohol poisoning," the coroner added. "I was able to verify her identity through fingerprinting, dental records, and blood type," "okay is she Sarah Jenkins?" Detective James asked.

"Yes.... but something is off," the coroner said. "What's the issue?" Detective Jones asked. "So all the markers point to her being Sarah Jenkins, but her face looks completely different and the height is a little off by an inch and a half," the coroner told the detectives. "Maybe she changed her face to make sure she didn't get caught," detective James says. "Yes that's true, but her face has no indications that she has undergone any plastic surgery." "Hmm, that's very strange," jones said while stroking his beard. "I'm going look into it further and if I figure out something I will call you," the coroner replied. "Okay then, don't forget to call us if something comes up," James said, as he and detective jones leaves. "These cases are starting to become weirder and weirder," jones says, as they get in the car and James nods in agreement. As soon as they were about to pull out of the parking lot, a call came over their radios about another body found. They both looked at each other in confusion as detective jones pulled out of the parking lot.
