Trevor's POV

"Marry me,"

"What?!!"

I am in deep shock after hearing what she said. I haven't expected her to say something like this to me. Is she joking with me? Before I can ask her anything, she repeats the exact same words again.

"Marry me," She says with so much conviction that I am baffled at her audacity, "Just marry me for a year."

I clench my fist tightly hearing her words, how can she ask me to do something so carelessly? I knew she has changed, but this much. I am fuming with rage seeing her blank face.

I don't know what is she thinking but isn't it too much? Is she trying to make me suffer? Marry her for a year? Is this how she wants to torture me now?

I take a deep breath and try to control myself from lashing out at her. Calming myself, I try to refuse her offer. But before I can refuse her offer, she speaks, "I will be getting married in three weeks. And before that, I need a husband. I will not ask you to be my real husband, you just need to act like a one."

I don't know how to react after hearing all those information. My head feels heavy, I'm already feeling dizzy because of our earlier conversation. Why is she doing this to me? I didn't ask for all this shit.

My life is already mess with debt and hospital bills; and she thinks I have time for all this. I have no wish to entertain her for even a second.

"Are you being serious?" I ask, my voice is lace with anger and frustration, "Why are you telling me all this? Do you want me to feel sympathy for you?" I ask in a mocking voice, "I don't feel anything for you, not even pity or sympathy." I say while gritting my teeth.

She chuckles and looks at me with a smirk, "You are wrong. I am not asking you to do all this for free, you will get pay for what you do."

"What?" I try to understand what she meant by those words, "Pay me! Pay me for what? For pretending to be your husband?"

"Yes," Her words shock me even more, I don't even know this person anymore. It feels like I am talking to a stranger.

"Think about it. It's not a bad offer considering your current situation. I can pay off everything," She says, in a monotone tone, as if she's doing some kind of business, "Debts and hospital bills, you just name it. I can pay it off all."

"You want to buy me with my money? Is that all?" I ask, looking at her with a disgusted look.

"If that's what you want to believe, then it's okay. I have no reason to explain it further."

I bite my tongue from speaking further. What a crazy situation is this? I have waited years for to meet her once but I never thought our meeting would be like this. Suddenly there is a knock on the door, I let out a sigh and walk toward the door. I mask my expression before opening the door. I didn't want people to know what happened here.

Opening the door, I see August standing with a man. The man's face is covered, he's standing holding a bag in his hand. I sign at August.

"He's here with Ms. McKenzie's order." August says which confuses me. Before I can ask him anything, Mia speaks up, "Let him in." Then she turns her head towards me, "You can leave now."

I nod our head and walk out of the room. My blood is boiling with anger with each step, I can't describe what's going on my mind and heart at this moment. Anger, frustration, resentment, betrayal or hatred – I don't know which emotion I am feeling right now. My head and heart both are in mess, I feel like I am drowning in the water with no way out.

"What happened there? What did she say to you?" August's voice brings me back into the reality, I stop and take a deep breath to calm myself.

"You look so pissed right now. Did something happen there?" August asks.

I have no idea how to answer his question or what to tell him or what not. But after calming myself down, I start to come into my sense, I feel heartbroken but there is nothing I can do now. It just made me realize the gap between us, she and I are no different strangers now. The Mia I knew has long gone.

"Nothing, it's just rich people thing. They think they can buy with anything money," I say, snorting at myself for my stupidity. For years, I believed that Mia wouldn't changed and she would remember the promise that we made to each other.

Years later, she did come to fulfill our promise but in a way that left me baffled and confused. I don't know what am I supposed to do now. I feel like all those years that I spent loving her and remembering her had been completely wasted.

"But wait- who's that man?" I ask, looking at the direction of the room where Mia is. The man already inside and the door is shut.

"Delivery man," August jokes in a nonchalant voice, I stare at him a dumbfound yet exhausted expression, not having enough energy to reply his joke. He clicks his tongue and says, "I don't know, man. I just called from the security guard saying a man came with our customer's order."

"Order?" I question, half confused and half curious.

"Remember what she said before coming," I arch my eyebrows hearing his words, not understanding what he meant, "She ordered two cheeseburgers with fries and two chocolate milkshakes in exactly thirty minutes. That man came with her order."

"I was so confused at first but he repeated the same word as her so something clicked in my mind and I understood."

"Understood what?"

"Think about it, we aren't a fast-food restaurant nor we sell fast food yet she ordered burgers and milkshakes. And she also gives us her credit card to treat ourselves that means she wants to hide something that's why she asked us to keep our mouth and eyes shut." August explains like he's a detective at work.

August's explanation made me puzzled as well curious, but I didn't want to pry anymore on this  so I didn't say anything. I just sigh and nod my head as if I'm agreeing with him.

"But how do you know her?" August asks, "She wouldn't have ask for you if she didn't know you."

"We used to be neighbours before she moved away." I reply, August just shakes his head in disbelief.
