"Is that all you got?" I ask, looking at the documents while rubbing my neck in frustration. This is not enough. With this much information, there is nothing I can do.
I look at Caleb who is busy in unwrapping the burgers, I roll my eyes seeing that. I know he's not doing it for money but he can a little bit more serious.
"You know it's not easy to dig information about Kingstone. They have eyes all over. I'm risking my life and career here." Caleb says as he takes a mouthful bite of the cheeseburger. I let out a heavy sigh hearing that.
"Is that all you got? Didn't you find anything useful?" I asks, leaning on the table, "Something that I can use against them?"
Caleb thinks for a few seconds while taking another bite of the cheeseburger. He wipes off the sauce from the corner of his lips, "I don't know if you can call it useful. But there is something strange I found while investigating about the death of Nicole Kingstone's death."
"What? What did you find?" I ask promptly, I need something more convincing that will make everyone shut, especially that old lady.
"See those pictures," Caleb quickly takes out a file from his bag; the file is filled with pictures, "It wasn't easy to collect those old pictures. But while collecting those pictures, I found something strange." Caleb mentions as he flips the pages and shows me a particular photo, "Do you know this woman?"
He points his finger towards a woman who is standing next to the old lady, Michelle Kingstone, Sarah and Nathan's grandmother. The photo looks old and it seems it was taken at a golf club. Is it an official photo? Seeing how they are looking at camera and posing.
"She is Rosanne Anderson, the second daughter of Anderson Empire." I answer, "What about her?"
"Do you know she was supposed to get married with Sebastian Kingstone before he got married to Nicole Kingstone?" Caleb asks, I nod my head.
"I heard about it." I reply, "Didn't she marry someone else shortly after?"
"Yeah, she also got divorced not long after. But that's not it, there was a rumor that Rosanne was marrying Sebastian Kingstone after his wife died." Caleb says, which surprises me a bit.
The Anderson and Kingstone are quite close, Rosanne's daughter Rachel also friends with Sarah. But I never heard about this rumor. I knew there was something seeing how Nathan dislikes whenever Rosanne comes to visit Michelle or my mom.
"I don't know it probably happened before I came into the family. I only heard about the engagement because it was a huge scandal." I tell him.
The scandal of Sebastian Kingstone caused quite a stir as I heard. People were wondering why he was breaking engagement with Rosanne Anderson for a girl who comes from nothing. People also dubbed Nicole, Nathan's mother as the Cinderella of high society, who managed to marry someone like Sebastian Kingstone.
Nathan's grandmother never approved their marriage like she claimed to public. Because of her, no one outside of Kingstone family knew much about Nicole. She was hardly seen in public. There must have been some issues between Nathan's mother and that old lady which why Nathan detests her. He would anything just to annoy her.
"But how is all that related? Is there something that I don't understand?" I ask.
"Well, I'm not sure but-," Caleb replies, "You see, this photo was taken during that time when the rumor was going on. However," he flips the pages and shows me a few more pictures of them. But this time the pictures looks kind of blurry as if they were taken secretly, "They were meeting quite frequently, prior to that. To be exact, they started to meet a few months before Nicole Kingstone's death."
"That doesn't prove that they planned to kill Nathan's mother," I tell him, although I am also suspicious seeing all these pictures. I don't know Rosanne well but sometimes she acts like she's the part of Kingstone.
"That's true. But from what I found, Sebastian Kingstone was digging around. He was suspicious of his wife's death. Although the culprit admitted his crime and the case was closed without any hitch." Caleb says, shaking his head.
"Suspicious? Why was he suspicious if the culprit was caught?"
"The man who caused the accident, his child was hospitalized," Caleb replies, "He was struggling to pay the hospital bills then suddenly after the accident, his family relocated and his child's hospital bills and treatment everything taken care of by someone. It's like-"
"As if someone paid him to cause the accident." I say, cutting off Caleb in mid-sentence. Caleb looks at me with a triumph smile as if he had managed to win a gold medal.
"You should eat, the food is getting cold." I remind him while unwrapping my cheeseburger. His smile drops hearing that. He looks at his half-eaten burger with a sad face, "It's already cold."
"How did you manage it find all the information? I am sure it wasn't a easy task, especially collecting those pictures." I ask while taking a bite of my burger.
"I have my ways. After all, I'm Caleb Parker." He replies, I roll my eyes hearing that.
Caleb was introduced to me by one of my acquaintances whom I met during my stay at Singapore. Initially I was sent there to fix the company's management. But I knew as soon as I reached there that it was all pre-planned. They hadn't sent me there to fix the problem but to take the blame of the embezzlement, which was done by some of the executives. My step-father also got a fair share money from those embezzlement so he wanted to swipe this under the rug without anyone knowing.
Back then, I didn't know what I was supposed to do. I was completely lost and I was in a different country so there was no way I could ask help from others. Fortunately, there was no evidence against me and the officer who was charge on the case, was very smart and capable. It was because of him; I was able to prove myself innocent without much hassle.
I had to stay there and work my ass off to fix the management. I could've abandoned them and run away but it would make me feel like a coward. The employees had no fault in this and they would lose their job if I didn't do anything for them. That's why I stayed there.
It took me two and half years to fix everything. It wasn't easy and I had barely any support from the main company, so there were a lot of things I had to do my own. As soon as the company returned to its original state, I was called back here. During that time, I met Caleb. For some reason, we got along pretty well.
That's why I asked him to dig around about the Kingstone and a few more people whose information I needed. Caleb didn't ask me any question which I really appreciated. He also agreed to do this for free as long as I pay for his meals.
I could hire a private investigator but it's too much work. And I am sure that woman is keeping eye on me. It's not easy for me to get the information that I need, so I am quite grateful that Caleb decided to help me out. Although I can't figure whether he has an ulterior motive or not.
"If you want to take down Kingstone, wouldn't be much better if you use their company's integral information?" Caleb asks while sipping his milkshake.
"But that wouldn't be fun." I reply with a smirk, "And I don't take down Kingstone, I want to destroy them completely."
