“Yeah, noted,” I grumbled, breaking the eye contact.
She smiled again and dragged her suitcase closer to her. We sat up and went to enter the elevator. I crammed myself into the corner to flick a quick message to Chris.
ALEXANDER:

ALEXANDER:

CHRIS:

I glanced up from my phone to see Octavia sitting on top of her suitcase, wheeling it in little circles. I figured now would be a good time to send David my phone number so I could message and call him at inconvenient times in the night and early morning to complain.
“Have you been to Dave’s house since they released you?” I asked, watching her ride a suitcase with slight confusion, but mostly disgusted apathy.
“Bold of you to assume they released me” She said with a smile and a suitcase donut. “Who’s to say I didn’t just break out?” She giggled and wheeled closer. I stood silent for a moment, trying to figure out if she was serious or not. She burst into a little fit of laughter and wheeled back into the centre of the elevator in little circles.
“Naw, I’m shittin’ ya. They let me go.” She said as she subconsciously scratched again. “But no, Sir David the knob wouldn’t take me near his house. He’s a big producer for the music industry, he has enough money that even his kids will hardly ever have to work. Surely he has some secluded room in his big-ass house to put me in instead of dumping me with one of his minions.”
“Okay, first of all, we’re not minions. More of an employee.” I retaliated.
“Minion: an underling of a powerful person, especially a servile or unimportant one.” She sang.
“Employee: A person employed for salary, especially at a nonexecutive level. Sounds the same to me. Close enough anyway” she sang with another little suitcase circle.
“And- wait, do you have those memorised?” I asked, straying off topic.
“Pfft, If I’m insulting someone, I do it right. Plus I called all the rehab employees minions, so I had to prove them wrong and have both meanings on hand. I have a lot of them. Prepare to be wrong for the rest of your life” She said with a large grin.
“Oh, and you wonder why Dave doesn’t want you around. You’re right. He is some big producer, and you’re some little screw-up, so why would he want that around his children? He said it himself, you’re a terrible influence and he doesn’t want you ruining what he built.”
I never really meant to lash out like that, but she was annoying me. She was silent for a moment before quietly scoffing and saying
“So he pairs me with you because you’re so
meaningless
and lonely
I couldn’t possibly affect anyone in your miserable life.”
There was no more talk for the rest of this uncannily long elevator trip.
There was no talk on the way to the apartment either.
