During the faculty mat ball game, Evy and I agreed to hang out with Mahina Koridia at some non-school event. The one she picked was immediately very non-school. My best friend Pippi was along, as she and I had some history with the Brambler Maybe Meet Your Lover And Go Camping a Bit Matchmaking Meet and Greet.
It took up one of the open spaces of the Twin Wolves mall, and it looked to have a big turnout as we arrived. We had a long line just for the registration.
"Why is Brambler Co. hosting a singles event?" Evy said, eyeing one of the pillars that was wrapped in tent material, which I guess showed off Brambler product's durability?
"It's pretty simple, Evy," Pippi said, pushing her glasses up. "Brambler owns Teenly, the company that produces both Teenly Teen Magazine and Teensly Street, that overtly dramatic high school soap opera."
"Oh, seriously?" Evy said. "I've seen a bit of that...it's..."
"Horrible, yeah, but now next time you see anything from it the Brambler product placement will be unmistakable."
"Wait though, why does Brambler owning Teenly mean they do a dating event?" Evy asked.
"Because! Teenly also has a magazine in its empire called Adulty, which has been cancelled numerous times because people keep thinking it's porn, even though it's not."
"I dunno, I picked up an Adulty magazine one time and it was pretty spicy," Mahina said.
"Was that Adulty or Adultly?" Pippi said. "Because Adultly Magazine is one hundred percent porn."
"It might've been Adultly," Mahina said. "My, Miss Pippi knows her stuff."
"This isn't my first rodeo with Brambler, let's just say."
Evy seemed a touch uncomfortable about all this, and I think I knew why.
"Don't worry, Evy," I said, patting her arm. "When you're the wingman, you get a big red sticker that says as much, and you're off limits."
"Does that stop people?" Evy asked.
"Yes!" Pippi said. "And for those few who dare to break the rules, security is on them like that." She snapped her fingers.
"So don't worry about anyone coming for me!" I said.
"Alright, alright, I'll try to hold back my unbridled rage trying to keep you all to myself." Evy said.
I think during the gut laugh that brought out of me Evy asked Pippi if she'd done this particular singles thing before.
"Stella and I both have," Pippi said.
"I was Pippi's wingman for one of these," I explained.
"And I was your wingman too, don't act like you've never tried meeting anyone at this!" Pippi said.
Evy's eyebrows raised. "How did that go?"
"Stella thought that folk singer she had a huge crush on would be at this for some reason and was losing her mind," Pippi said.
"Hey, you don't have to tell her that!" I said.
"She was so dead set on that chick that she probably broke some hearts that day," Pippi said.
"I doubt it, even if I was looking over everyone's shoulder trying to see if that singer was actually there, I wasn't getting paired with anyone that was my vibe. Not that I think this will be a waste for you two!"
"I've actually never done anything like this," Mahina said. "My dating method is usually meeting people at bars, which doesn't have the greatest track record."
"Let's make this one count, then!" I said.
When we got to the registration area, Pippi and Mahina got pink name tag stickers, and Evy and I got the red wingman ones. Officially, I was Pippi's wingman and Evy was Mahina's, but I figured we'd stay as a group as much as we could outside of the one on one time for the singles.
