Even if you are blind, I will show you love

Chapter 2

Chapter 2

Apr 03, 2025

What am I supposed to do now? Where to go? All the money I saved up for a part-time job stayed at home. Putting these thoughts out of my head, I finally decided to explore the area. As it turned out, the end point of my mini-marathon was the park. Due to the fact that it was a day off, there were a lot of people walking in the park. I haven't been out for a walk in a long time, I even forgot this pleasant freshness. There were couples walking around me, owners walking their pets, children playing catch-up, friends having a picnic on the grass. Looking at all this, I felt sad that I spend all my youth on work and study.

After walking a little more, I saw a girl sitting on a bench. She was very cute, with white hair, a beautifully shaped face, and chubby cheeks. Like a beautiful statue carved out of stone, she sat motionless and stared into the void. Realizing that I had been staring at her for too long, I decided to come over and sit next to her.

We both just sat there in silence. I had nothing to say to her, and I couldn't get what I'd done half an hour ago out of my head. Can I go home now? Maybe I just had to wait it out for a while?

While all these questions were spinning in my head, the girl finally moved. She was reaching for her cane, which stood next to the bench. But, apparently, not calculating the distance, her hand missed a little, which caused the cane to fall off.

"Damn, what is this," she said in a whisper.

She moved her hands trying to find the fallen cane, but the attempts were unsuccessful. After that, I understood. She's blind. I immediately got up, walked around the bench and handed her the cane.

"Here you go," I handed her the cane.

"Eh?"

She looked at me in surprise. Meeting her gaze, I was finally convinced of my guess. Her beautiful light green eyes, reminiscent of grass sprouting in spring, looked through me, devoid of any meaning. Hesitantly, she reached out and took the cane.

"Thank you very much," she said with a faint smile on her face.

- You're welcome.

After that, we didn't say anything to each other and just walked in different directions. I walked around different places until it was dusk.

Returning home, I saw friends saying goodbye to each other, as parents go shopping with their children. When I saw this, melancholy came over me, and I decided that I would not return home for the time being. I'd rather wait until nightfall.

It was so unusual and pleasant to walk through unfamiliar places in the dead of the evening. I love summer evenings – it's the best thing in this world. I love watching the sunset when the red sun goes down as if hiding from someone.

As night fell, I finally decided it was time to return home. Moving through the dark streets, I finally reached my house.

I quietly opened the door and carefully closed it. Hoping to slip into my room unnoticed, I went ahead, trying not to make any noise. But unexpectedly, my mother was sitting in the kitchen.

"Where have you been?""What is it?" she asked me.

Her face was either agitated or angry.

- I'm asking: where have you been?

- I was walking - I didn't want to continue this conversation at all, so I just said it as briefly as I could.

"Go to your room, you're grounded."

"That's fine.

I immediately went up to the second floor and went into my room, flopped down on the bed and closed my eyes. I've been thinking about everything that happened today. In short, it was fun, but didn't my parents even try to look for me?

A sudden thought made me jump. I looked at the bedside table and breathed a sigh of relief.

- On the spot.

Immediately after I got a part-time job, I kept half of my earnings for myself so as not to ask my parents for anything. And I saved up the money I earned, I don't even know why. I just didn't have time to spend it, because when my shift at work ended, almost all the stores were closed, and I was too lazy to get to the convenience stores, so I postponed it. Immersed in such thoughts, I did not notice how I fell asleep.

The next morning, I noticed that my mother hadn't come to wake me up, so I overslept. Looking at the time, I realized that it was already lunch. It's a good thing I'm not late for work. After washing up, I immediately went downstairs to have breakfast, if you can call it at lunchtime.

My father was no longer at home, and my mother was standing in the kitchen washing dishes.

- What do we have to eat?

- ...

Silence. She just remained silent for a few minutes. I thought maybe she just didn't hear, but even when I asked again, she still didn't answer. So I went over and helped myself to some food and sat down to eat.

During all this time, we both just kept quiet. I was reading on my phone, and she was doing something in the kitchen. Well, which one of us is still a child?

After eating, I went up to my room and just sat down to continue reading until it was time to go to work. I felt great there, because I was able to get a good night's sleep after such a long sleep. Time flew by unnoticed, and the number of my mistakes decreased significantly. After work, I immediately went home. Fortunately, my father hadn't come home from work yet.

Mom was in the kitchen, but I managed to sneak into my room unnoticed. After entering it, I sat on the bed and, taking out my phone, began to read. After a while, my father returned from work, but I decided not to pay attention to him, immersed in reading.

When I heard footsteps heading to my room, I decided to pretend to be asleep to avoid talking. I opened my eyes a little and saw my father peeking out of the door and looking in my direction. When he saw that I was asleep, he silently closed the door and left.

So a few days passed, until the weekend came again. Mom didn't wake me up, so I didn't force myself to go to school. Now that I could get enough sleep, I felt great. My mood was good every day, and I didn't feel tired at the end of the day.

This weekend, I decided to go for a walk again. After waking up at lunchtime and having a snack, I left the house and went to the park, which I went to before. Now it took me about fifteen minutes to get there, because I knew where I had to go. The park was still teeming with vacationers. This time I brought some money, intending to try out the assortment of shops that I had noticed back then. After a short walk, I saw a white-haired girl sitting in the same place.

I went up to her, sat down next to her and greeted her.

- hello.

"Eh?" Who's there?

"It's me." The man who helped lift the cane last week.

"Oh, it's you.

I looked at her and was once again convinced of her incomparable beauty.

- Do you often visit this park?

- Almost every day, and you?

- Only the second time. By the way, my name is Izumi.

"And I'm Himari."

- Are you just sitting on this bench?

"What do you mean?" I don't understand.

- Well, the last time I came to this park, you were sitting in this place too. So I thought maybe this is your favorite place.

"That's what you're talking about. No, it was an accident. I can't see anything, but I have a dog. He asks to go out every day. I put on a collar and go out with him, and he keeps coming here. While I'm sitting there, he's playing somewhere nearby.

"Interesting." And will he take you home too?

- Yes, he's playing nearby, I'll call him now. Akaru, come here! – She called in a gentle voice.

A few seconds later, a Shikoku dog ran up to us. Approaching Himari, he began to circle around her, wagging his ring-tail. I held out my hand, and he came up to me, sniffed it, and started playing again.

"A friendly little dog, though.

- yes. Akaru won't attack anyone, but he always protects me. I couldn't even count how many times I would have fallen if it hadn't been for him.

"Good boy," I patted his stomach while talking to Himari.

As a result, we talked for about an hour, after which we went home. After that day, I went to the park every evening, not busy with work, where Himari and I chatted on various topics. I felt comfortable in her company, and we talked calmly on a variety of topics. Himari was a great conversationalist.

After such evenings, I was inspired to write short stories. A lot of ideas were wandering around in my head, gradually forming into a single tapestry. I am determined to write a novel in the near future, without giving up halfway.

In the past, I could afford it because I had enough time to try. But now everything is different. Spit. I will write, even if it does not bring me money. I will write, even if I have to combine it with other things. I'm going to write because I like it, and as long as it's like this, I don't think I'm wasting my time.

One weekend, I woke up at lunchtime, immediately got out of bed, washed my face, and made myself an omelet. After that, I went up to my room, picked up my phone and headphones, and then left the house.

Twenty minutes later, I reached the park, where Himari was still sitting in the same place, and Akaru was playing with the children next to her. I went up to her and greeted her.

"Hi, Himari," I said her name, so that she would immediately understand that it was me and not a random passerby.

"I—Izumi?" It's you?

— Yes, it's me.

— I'm sorry, I just didn't get it right away. Hi.

— yeah. Himari, I wanted to ask you a question.: What do you do at home when you're bored?

— When are you bored? Well... I usually turn on the TV and listen to it, though it only works sometimes. Why are you asking?

—Do you have a phone?"  I asked, ignoring her question.

—Yes, here," she said, holding out her phone.

"Be glad, now you won't have to be bored," I said in a playful manner.

"What do you mean?" What are you talking about?

— Here, look.

I took her phone, found an audiobook website, turned on my favorite work, and pinned the window to the lock screen so she wouldn't accidentally close it.

— Here, the headphones. You take them and insert the wire here. Now put them on. Well done. Come on, tap with your finger on the screen — she did everything as I said, and the narrator's voice sounded in her ears.

- what is it? "What is it?" she asked, surprised.

— This is an audiobook of my favorite work. When you get bored, just turn it on and listen. Believe me, this story will drag you down. And you can leave your headphones on, you don't have to take them out of your phone.
