Through the veil of dreams

Exam

Exam

Apr 24, 2025

Jane noticed me turning my face away, trying to hide from the new boy without making it obvious which I guess I overdid.

"What happened? Do you know him?" she whispered, I could feel both curiosity and concern in her tone.

I hesitated for a split second, then shook my head. "No… not really."

She gave me a look, that kind of look best friends give when they know you're lying but decide not to call you out on it just yet.
Her expression definitely said "I won't ask now but you have to tell me everything afterwards". She didn't ask more just nodded slowly and glanced toward the front.

I kept my gaze fixed on my desk, pretending to be busy arranging my pens. My heart was still racing from the moment our eyes had met, or rather, the moment I realized he was real. The boy from my dream.

Then, from the corner of my eye, I saw him move, calm and composed. He made his way to the back and slid into the seat behind us. The one directly behind me, next to the boy named Eric.

I sat frozen, aware of every sound, every breath. That dream really messed with my brain I was overthinking every single thing, Did he know me? Was the dream real? Have we met somewhere else before the dream?

Jane glanced at me again but said nothing this time.
Our teacher broke my trail of thoughts as she began distributing the question papers, announcing that the exam was about to begin.

I tried to push my thoughts aside, convincing myself it was just a simple coincidence. Maybe I was just overanalyzing a dream nothing more. And it being just a coincidence actually made more sense.

It wasn't the time to think of anything else, I had to concentrate, So I straightened up and focused myself on the exam.

The moment the exam ended, our teacher started collecting the answer sheets, and the silence that had settled over the room quickly shattered. It became loud again much more than before.
Some students discussing question paper the usual post exam chaos.

"I swear Question 5 wasn't even in the syllabus," someone said from the back.

"No, it was! You just skipped that chapter, again," another laughed.

And the remaining students gathered around Aizen. He had barely spoken to anyone but Eric since he'd arrived and offered a small almost animated smile as the crowd started enquiring him about himself.

I became curious over the whispers and questions flying his direction but didn't want to look too interested so I rested my head over the table folding my arms beneath it and pretended to sleep shuting my eyes.

"Hey, Aizen!" one of the girls called out, "How come you and Eric are already so close? You guys look like you've known each other forever!"

Yes, they actually looked close, he was talking with Eric freely before the crowd, it didn't look forced like it did now.

"Well because we are family friends," Eric said, his voice light and warm. "Our families go way back, we have been friends since we were kids."

Oh so that's why they looked close. They have known each other for a long time.

"So how does it feel to reunite with your friend in the same class?" someone asked.

"Nothing special," he replied flatly, though there was something in his voice, a little hint of tenderness and mischief when he spoke to Eric. "Just a few more years of annoying each other."

Others laughed clearly enjoying their playful conversation as they kept teasing each other.
