The next day, Jonathan walked down the school hallway.

His face was full of badges, because he wanted to hide the bruises. He thought about what Henry said, to stay away from Imogen…not realizing his surroundings, Imogen sneakily hugged him from behind. “Jonathan!” she says, smiling brightly, Jonathan gets flustered “I-Imogen!?”. “Hey! Wanna hang later? My dad said it’s his treat!” her arm wrapped around his. “R-Really? I-” Jonathan pauses 'if I stop hanging out with Imogen then maybe Henry will really…' his eyes turn cold. “No, thanks.” he said in a cold tone, he pulls his arm away from Imogen. She looks at him confused. Henry slides in suddenly “Imogen!” he exclaims happily, Jonathan flinches “S-see you” he says, leaving Imogen and Henry alone.

'Somethings up with these two…but what?' She thought to herself not realizing that Henry had gotten closer to her. “Hey Imogen? I-I was just wondering if we could have lunch together-'' Imogen shuts him down “-sorry I’m already having lunch with someone- Jonathan wait!”. She runs past Henry chasing Jonathan, his fists harden and he throws his lunchbox on the ground. He glares at Imogen and Jonathan angrily.

It’s the afternoon and everyone's going home, Imogen’s making her way to the front. 'Jonathan’s been so distant lately…is it because of that boy?' She thought to herself. She stopped on her tracks as she watched Jonathan get dragged away Henry. 'This is my chance!' she slowly follows them from behind.

Henry throws Jonathan against the wall, in a small PE storage room. “You just don’t know when to quit huh?” he says glaring at Jonathan angrily “w-what?” Jonathan responds confused. Henry grabs Jonathan by the collar “don’t act stupid! Are you a witch? Is that why Imogen’s following you around!?” he shouts, it hurts Jonathan’s ears.

“N-no! I don’t know why she’s following me!” Jonathan answers desperately. Henry punches Jonathan suddenly as Imogen finally arrives to the scene. “You’re lying! A girl like her would never just follow you around!” He yells, Imogen's eyes widen in surprise. Jonathan falls to the ground groaning in pain. Henry approaches him again, ready to give him another really big punch when Jonathan shouts, “-I’LL STOP TALKING TO HER!”. He stops, surprised and confused. “I-I won’t talk to her , I won’t interact with her, I won’t even look at her! Just please…stop hitting me…” Jonathan whimpered, nearly crying. It breaks Imogen’s heart.

“Ah. Okay.” Henry mumbled quietly, “R-really?” Jonathan smiled. Just as he began to feel relieved, Henry smirked “Did you really believe that?!”. He suddenly pounced on Jonathan, trying to strangle him. Imogen quickly pushes Henry away hard. He lands on the other side of the room.

“STOP RIGHT NOW !” she screams, full of rage. 'I-Imogen?' Jonathan thought to himself, “I-Imogen!?” Henry questions out loud, he slowly stands up. Imogen extends both her arms out in order to prevent Henry from getting any closer to Jonathan. “What the heck is wrong with you!? What did Jonathan ever do to you!?” she shouts, this surprises both Jonathan and Henry.

“Why did you do it!?” she asks, her voice demanding “I-I…because I…I REALLY LIKE YOU!” Henry shouts. As Imogen and Jonathan look at each other, Henry continues “...so I thought that if…I got him away from you..”. She glared at him “well you thought wrong, I would never date a bully! So keep dreaming, you dirt bag!". Henry grit his teeth as he got visibly angry, he curled his hand up into a fist and then he threw a punch. Imogen hit the ground and groaned 'OH NO, IMOGEN!' Jonathan thought to himself, he suddenly glared at Henry and quickly stood up.

Jonathan ran up to Henry and bit his arm, Henry screamed in pain “ARGH! GET OFF OF ME!”, he threw Jonathan back to Imogen with a kick. Imogen spits, she thinks for a moment 'we need to find a way out ..!! escape! that's it!' She stands up slowly turning to Jonathan. He stares at her confused. In a rush, Imogen grabs Jonathan’s hand and runs past Henry. “HEY! WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU’RE GOING!?” he shouts angrily, but he doesn’t run after them.

Running, the wind hits their faces, Imogen's hair waves along and Jonathan can see the sunshine brighter once again.

Imogen stops at the front of the school, “are you okay?…he didn't hurt you that bad did he?” she asked out of breath. She reaches her hand out to touch his cheek but he slaps her hand away, it takes her by surprise. “Jonathan?...” she says quietly he grabs both her shoulders suddenly and pins her against a wall. “Why…?” he asks , his head low “w-why what?” she tilts her head, she wants to see his expression now more than ever. “Why did you do that!? ARE YOU AN IDIOT!?” he yells, "why would you protect someone you don't even care about!?" he shouted, his hands beginning to tremble. “But...I do care about you Jonathan!” she shouts back “THEN DON’T!” he screamed, “why!?” she screamed back.

“BECAUSE OF ME YOU-.....” Jonathan lets go of Imogen’s shoulders and finally looks up at her, she’s surprised to see that he’s crying. “...you got hit…” he said, his eyes full of tears. Imogen stared at him for a few seconds, she placed her hands on his arms, and pulled him in for a hug.

They both fall down to the ground, tired from the fighting.

“I will stay by your side, and protect you always….that is what best friends are for, right?” Imogen said quietly. Her soothing voice comforting Jonathan, he slowly hugged her back. They stayed that way for a few minutes and then she pulled away. She smiles warmly at him, there are tears in her eyes, he stares at her and sobs.
