REGENEX Part 1

CHAPTER 6 - B

CHAPTER 6 - B

May 19, 2025

"We're in the Nevada desert, we're at the infamous gate that everyone else gets stopped at." He pointed his finger.  "Over that way is where the base is, and I'll tell you what, these nukes are gonna hit soon, and ya'll are probably my last audience.  We're gonna drive through this dumb-ass fence right here, and we're gonna drive as fast as we can." He took a breath and paused to take a sip of water from a bottle and was pointing to a fence next to him. "If it's the last thing I do, we're gonna see the proof of alien life and who knows, maybe they got some kind alien vehicle down there we can take off in and get the hell of this planet before the shit hits the fan." The livestreamer got in his large off-road vehicle. He mounted the camera on the dash next to another camera. One was aimed at him, and the other was aimed at the fence in front of him.  "Here we go ya'll." He turned the vehicle over and it screamed alive.  Taking a quick look at the camera, he smiled adventurously and hit the gas.  He braced as he crashed through the fence. "Woooo!" he screamed as his adrenaline was obviously taking over. "We're through ya'll! Area 51 here we come! Wooo!" The camera shook violently as chunks of broken wood splintered off the hood of his truck.  The terrain was obviously not great and the shaking of the camera matched the terrain, the footage was hard to watch, almost nauseating.  He pointed again. "It's supposed to be just over that ridge."  A very loud rumble could be heard, starting to shake the vehicle uncontrollably.  He slammed on the brakes.  The vehicle, still shaking.  He looked at the camera. "I don't know what that is y'all.  Is that an earthquake?" he looked around him dumbfounded. "This shit is loud and intense ya'll"  and then he saw it.  His face went from confusion to pure horror and wonder.  He couldn't move, he was in shock. "Oh my gosh, ya'll" through his front camera something appeared to be leaving the ground in the distance on the other side of the ridge he has pointed to. "Is that a damn nuke?" His face continued in shock, horror and amazement.  "Now I know how that dude, Oppenheimer must have felt with his shit. Y'all caught that movie, right?"  The object in front of him travelling upward with tons of smoke at its base was a nuclear warhead. "That's a nuke y'all, that's a damn nuke, ya'll!  Multiple expletives could be heard in his descriptions.  The nuke had moved quickly and vanished from site into the clouds leaving behind a thick trail of smoke.  "So, um folks.  Our government has just launched a nuke from Area-51. I don't know where it's heading, but it can't be good.  Um, this just made shit real, ya'll.  The end is really here.  Um, there's no turning back for me.  I promised y'all a final view of Area-51 and that's what I'm gonna do.  He started his vehicle again and sat there for a moment.  He composed himself and put the vehicle in drive again.  Looking in front of him, he started rolling forward.  Something caught his eye and he stopped again.  This object was a speck but getting larger with every passing second. "There's something else here, y'all.  I can't quite see what it is."  The man was squinting his eyes desperately trying to see what it was, shifting around in his seat for a better view.  The look in his eyes went from curious and desperate, to pure horror at the realization of what he was witnessing.  A single tear formed in his eye and he looked at the camera again.  Y'all, I think there's another nuke, and it's headed this way.  It's too quick to be a plane.  On the other camera, a small black object had made its way closer into frame with an obvious downward trajectory. "Ya'll..." he said looking back at the camera.  "From the bottom of my heart, thank you for being my viewers, my followers, my friends.  This is it.  I love you all."  He began to cry in his hands.  In one fateful second, the front-facing camera showed a brief glimpse of the nuclear warhead in all of its glory making contact with the ground.  A microsecond later, a blinding white light had erased all background from what was in front, and the man sitting in the truck.  The livestream froze in place.

Jim was just sitting on the couch.  Stunned, horrified, feeling emotions he never knew he had or how to describe them.  Simon really did only give a brief synopsis, he thought to himself.  He had just witnessed the collapse of a civilization, the collapse of mankind.  How all of the world's powers that be, decided the fate of the rest of the world.  Their solution was not just collateral damage, it was total destruction.  It angered Jim to know that those very so-called  "leaders" might actually still be alive out there if their own fallout shelters held up.  He wondered if any of the crew had also seen what he had seen, had the same curiosity bug about pre-destruction events.

Jim had enough excitement for one evening, and it struck him that he didn't even know what time it was.  Time had felt irrelevant to him amidst everything that had happened so far.  He got up from the couch and went back over to the tablet, not even bothering to take it down.  He woke up the device and the time was displayed right there on the home screen, he wasn't sure how he hadn't noticed it before.  0200. That was enough for him.  He used the remote to turn off the TV and went into his bedroom.

He climbed in, still unsure of what to make of everything.  He knew he was too tired to think anymore.

"How do I turn these damn lights off?" he said aloud.

"Lights off." a computer voice could be heard.

This startled Jim a little, as he wasn't expecting it.  He quickly regained composure and turned on his side.  It took no time at all for Jim to begin falling asleep. Deep in sleep Jim started to have brief unknown dream-state flashes.  He couldn't really make anything out, but he could hear in a very deep, muffled, almost distant sound, talking.  It sounded very panicked, all the words were melted together, and he couldn't make out much of anything.  He listened desperately trying to make any of this conversation out, he finally made out one of the words, and it echoed, someone was very fearful shouting

"Captain!  Captain!"

Captain?  Who are they talking about? Simon?  Everything faded away.  His dream was nothing more than darkness now.

His eyes suddenly opened to the sound of the computer.

"0800 wake up call, 0800 wake up call.  Everyone is to meet on the first floor."

Okay, let's do this.
