Long ago humanity was under the thumb of the calamity, monsters roamed the world freely, and our populous was reduced drastically. Humanity fled across the galaxy to find a new home but on this new world, it was worse.

Monsters were more fierce, violent, but through prayer to the gods and the twelve moons of Shea, humanity was graced with blessings of magic, one after another, a select group of humanity gained these abilities finally allowing us to fight back against the monsters.

However this did not eliminate the threat of monsters, so humanity lives in city's and towns, forever separated from eachother by the wilds. 

It is thanks to the gods that we have these gifts, and only the brave of the brave have the courage to battle these monsters. 

Here in the village of the Kaya clan, the st-

"Excuse me, but why aren't the other kids here?" A child calls out, interrupting todays reading. 

A young boy sprinted through the village, laughter spilling as his feet pounded the dirt path. Hot on his heels was an older boy, his brother, face twisted in playful fury. Just behind them came their sister, breathless and annoyed, chasing them both.

“KAITO!!” she shouted.

Kaito didn’t stop. He darted between villagers, knocking over a startled man in his path. His brother, Kaid, vaulted over a barrel, eyes locked on his target. Kate followed, dodging carts and ducking under clotheslines.

The village square, once festive with red and green heart-shaped banners, turned into a disaster zone. The trio barreled through a buffet table, sending plates flying and food splattering across cobblestones. Cloth ripped. Windows cracked. Someone’s fresh bread exploded into a cloud of crumbs as it was used as a projectile.

“Stop running!”
“Watch where you're going!”
“Darn kids!”
“Learn how to listen!”

“I said I was sorry!” Kaito shouted over his shoulder, grinning wildly as his bare feet slapped against the grass.

“Sorry won’t save you!” Kaid snapped, gaining on him.

Kate, still giving chase, yelled, “Would you two stop! We're going to be late for the lecture!”

Before Kaito could respond, a pair of strong arms scooped him up off the ground, his legs flailing helplessly.

“And what exactly aren't you three doing in class?” their mother, Moon, asked with a bright smile.

She stood tall and graceful, her voluminous, cloud-white afro hiding her eyes. She wore the village’s ceremonial colors, red and green, woven into a flowing dress that shimmered in the sunlight.

Kaid rolled his eyes, arms crossed. His white dreadlocks framed a face of practiced disinterest, though his ruby-red eyes betrayed his annoyance. “He’s the one who needs class,” he said, jabbing a thumb at Kaito. “Not me.”

Kaito squirmed out of Moon’s grasp. “I do not!”

Moon chuckled. “Oh really? Then tell me, how do monsters get their power?”

“They roar, and they get stronger!” Kaito declared, puffing his chest out proudly.

Moon burst into laughter. “Mm, yes. Definitely class time for you.”

Kate, her hair in two neat puffballs and eyes matching her brothers’, crossed her arms and pouted. “I wanted to go to class. But Kaid and Kaito wouldn’t stop fighting!”

Kaid scoffed. “It wasn’t even a fight. I’m just better than him.”

That was enough to set Kaito off. He lunged at Kaid, shouting in protest. Kaid easily caught him in a headlock, grinning smugly. Kate sighed and hurried to pull them apart.

Moon shook her head, watching the chaos unfold with a soft laugh. “Boys,” she said, “it’s important to learn your history.”

Still trapped in the headlock, Kaito grumbled, “The past is the past. It doesn’t matter.”

Moon stepped in, gently prying them apart. “Well then,” she said with a wink, “if you won’t learn in class, how about learning in the kitchen?”

Kaito’s eyes lit up. “Really? Sure!”

He trotted off beside her, happily following his mother.
