Kevin and Jay accompany me to the office, and then we go our separate ways. I approached the receptionist, an elderly woman with glasses. She looks up and greets me, saying,
"How may I assist you, dear?" I smile back at her, taking a seat in front of her, and respond,
"My name is Felicity, and it's my first day. My mom has all the paperwork that was requested for me to give to you." I pull out the documents and slide them across the desk. She begins to flip through them, and after some typing and printing, she beams at me and says,
"Welcome to Brighton Private Academy!" She hands me my schedule, locker number, and code, along with my library card, and then directs me to a spot for my ID photo. I stand where she indicates, and she snaps my picture. "Please wait over there for a few moments while I prepare your ID," she instructs, pointing to a couch. I nod and walk over to sit down. After twenty minutes, she calls me over to her desk. I approach her desk, and she hands me my ID, explaining that the barcode is linked to my family's bank accounts. This will be my means to purchase food and other items from the school store. Additionally, it serves as my access key for entering the school through all doors. I nod in understanding and make my way to my locker on the third floor. I ascend the marble stairs and find my locker, the last one by the window. I enter my code, and it pops open. I shrug off my backpack and check my schedule; my first class is English. I grab my English textbook, notebook, and pen, stuffing the rest into my locker. As I head to the English classroom, I realize class started fifteen minutes ago, and I feel a wave of nerves wash over me at the thought of walking into a class that's already in session. Ugh, everyone's going to stare at me. As I approach the classroom, my hand rests on the doorknob. I inhale deeply, then exhale, and push the door open. Instantly, every head turns to face me. Great, this is awkward. I quickly glance at the female teacher and make my way to her. She greets me with a smile and says,
"Felicity, I presume?" I nod in response, and she continues,
"I was expecting you. Please take a seat and turn to page 55 in your textbook. Also, make sure to stop by after school to collect notes from last week's classes to prepare for the final in a few weeks."
I nod again and head towards the back of the classroom. I settle into a seat in the last row by the window, letting out a quiet sigh as I pull out my textbook and flip to the correct page.
I signed the documents and wrote the check, and the realtor promptly handed me the key with a broad smile. I turned to my driver and instructed,
"Get this place staged to resemble a family home." He nodded in agreement as I strolled through the house I had just purchased. For Hudson, New York, it's quite nice; I didn't want anything too extravagant, so I opted for a two-story mini mansion. An hour later, my team was busy moving in and quickly arranging the space to suit my taste. After a few hours, you'd never guess it was just bought today. Cozy furniture arrangements, with knickknacks and random items like a jacket draped over a chair and an open laptop with glasses beside it, created the illusion that others lived here with me. Later, my driver found me lounging on the couch, lost in thoughts about my mate. He said,
"Your Majesty, I have the information you requested; she is attending Brighton Private School, and today is her first day. She just moved here, living with the Darkmoons. It appears to be a private adoption. I've included a file with details about her adoption, her birth parents, what transpired, and some additional information." I eagerly took the folder and smiled at him, saying,
"Thank you so much, you did an excellent job! Please enroll me in the school and come back to get me; I would like to attend today as well." He bowed and replied, "Right away, Your Majesty.”
English class was incredibly boring; the teacher monotonously read straight from the textbook for the entire period. When the bell finally rang, I hurriedly made my way to the exit and headed towards my locker. Of course, I had to encounter Lizzie on the way. The look on her face when she spotted me felt like I had been splashed with acid. You could practically feel the malevolent energy radiating from her. She marched over to me, her expression twisted in a sneer, and exclaimed,
"What the hell are you doing here in my uniform!?" I chuckled,
"Your uniform? I think this belongs to the school, not you, and I attend here now." She retorted,
"Ugh, great, they’re letting trash in here now!" I raised an eyebrow at her and replied,
"The only trash I see is standing right in front of me."
She shot me a glare and stepped closer, crossing her arms as she scrutinized me. After a moment, she threatened, "I’ll make you regret ever coming near me; soon enough, you’ll be crying and crawling back to where you belong."
My anger flared, and I snapped back, "I accidentally bumped into you once, and you’re still holding a grudge? Don’t you have better things to do than obsess over me!"
She laughed, saying, "I have plenty of time to drive you crazy."
With that, she sauntered away down the hallway, leaving me shaking my head as I opened my locker.
My upcoming class is History, and I shared it with Jay. As I entered the classroom, he had saved a seat for me right next to him. The hours dragged on, and after a few classes, I was eager for Lunch. While I was at my locker, I overheard a girl animatedly chatting with another girl nearby. I caught snippets of their conversation:
"I just saw the hottest guy ever just now, he must be new because I've never seen him before," and the other girl replied,
"Really! I wonder what grade he is!?"
I tuned them out; it was just typical girl talk that didn't interest me. I made my way to the cafeteria, where Kevin and Jay were leaning against the wall by the entrance. They noticed me and waved me over, and we walked in together. People were staring and whispering as we passed by. Throughout the day, I discovered that my brothers were quite popular. We headed over to the Chinese food booth, where I grabbed some orange chicken and a bottle of water. They pulled me to their table filled with friends who quickly made space for the three of us in the center. I found myself sitting between Kevin and Jay, and their friends wasted no time in firing off questions
Although their friends were friendly, they were also quite pushy and flirty. Jay kept urging his friends to tone down the flirting, while Kevin shot them glares. Their friends just laughed and ramped up the flirting, seemingly to annoy them further. Eventually, we all found ourselves laughing together. That is, until Lizzie approached our table, causing us to collectively groan. Kevin snapped at her, "What do you want, Lizzie? You’re not welcome at our table, so just leave!" She pouted and replied, "Now babe, don’t treat me like that; it hurts my feelings. You know I just want to be near you." Hearing this, Kevin snapped the plastic fork he was holding in half, sounding almost like he was growling as he said, "I keep turning you down, yet you keep showing up. Don’t you have any self-respect? You know I will never choose you, and I’ll say it again! Lizzie, I reject you, and I hope to never see you again—GET LOST!" He shouted the last part, glaring up at her. She looked at him in despair and said, "I can’t help that I love you; I’ll never be able to stop." With that, she shot me a glare and walked away. Kevin’s friend chimed in, "Dude, you’ve got a crazed, love-struck stalker!" Kevin nodded, running his fingers through his hair in frustration and letting out a heavy sigh.
My driver returns to me after a few hours, carrying a folder, uniforms, and a backpack. He says, "Your Majesty, I have prepared everything; just take this folder to the office, and they will assist you with the rest. I have placed your textbooks and some supplies in your bag." I inquire, "Did you arrange for the same classes as her?" He nods and replies, "Yes, Your Majesty, I have scheduled you for all of her classes." I leap up in excitement, exclaiming, "Fantastic!" I take my uniforms from him and rush up the stairs to my room. I quickly change and get ready, eager to be around my mate.I decided to drive myself, arriving at the school and heading straight to the office. After a little while, I got my locker, conveniently located right next to hers. I make my way to the Science classroom. As I open the door, I'm enveloped by the familiar scents of lavender, cinnamon, and honey once more. My gaze immediately finds her, but just as she seems about to look up at me, the teacher interrupts my focus. Frustrated, I turn to the teacher who inquires about my name. I responded, "My name is Ezikle, and it's my first day here."
The teacher appears taken aback and exclaims,
"Oh wow, two new students in one day! This almost never happens here! Please take a seat."
I flash her a smile and walk directly to the seat beside my mate. I plop down in the chair and glance over at her, but she hasn’t looked my way at all.
I find myself sitting in Science class, gazing out the window when an unexpected hush falls over the room, including the teacher. Curiously, I glance over to see the teacher conversing with a guy whose back is turned, making it hard for me to see his face. I turn my attention back to the window, losing interest in the unfolding scene. Suddenly, he takes a seat beside me, and an overwhelming sensation washes over me, making it hard to breathe. A wave of warmth and anxiety hits me, my heart races, and my fingers dig into the desk as confusion sets in about what’s happening. Then, a gentle masculine hand covers mine, while the other begins to trace circles on my back. His voice is barely audible, as if I’m submerged underwater, but after a moment, the sound breaks through. He leans in close, whispering, "Are you okay? Please be okay." His genuine concern is palpable. The instant he touches me, a sense of calm envelops me. His hand remains on mine, the other still on my back, and I feel no urge to pull away. Instead, I stay still, finally meeting his gaze. A soft gasp escapes my lips, the barely audible word, "beautiful," slips out. He smiles, and his radiance intensifies. His hair is a silky black, tousled just right, his skin and teeth flawless, pale yet not overly so, and his eyes pierce through me. They are a stunning emerald green, with a reddish hue around the pupils that takes my breath away. He responds with his crimson lips,
"Thank you, you are very beautiful yourself." He returns the compliment, then takes my hand and brings it to his lips. He kisses my hand gently before placing it back on the desk. My cheeks flush with embarrassment, and I’m left in shock. He releases my hands and shifts his focus back to the teacher, leaving me breathless and staring at him in wonder. A knowing smile spreads across his face; he is fully aware of the effect he has on me.
