Ophelia went back to the lavender stand. Pensive this time, the meeting with Gael occupied her mind. Mostly because she didn't expect to feel so happy and then so disappointed in just a few moments. It would have been great if Khiel would just show up already. But as it seemed, he was playing hard to get - at least that's what she thought.
Still, there was no time for confusion. The market was open, the customers were rushing and she had to do her best. Like always. And so, the hours passed and the sun was setting. The products were sold one by one and it was soon time to close…
“How much for the lavender oil?”
Ophelia turned around, only to see Kiehl standing in front of her. He looked dazzling under the setting sun. Maybe it was from the anticipation but he looked breathtaking. His hair was a rich chestnut shade that glowed in the soft rays. His eyes were as blue as the sky, which made his gaze as sharp as a dagger. He seemed taller, leaner than before, like a knight who trained for years.
“Are you really here for that?” she said with a determined look. It was her chance to finally convince him of seeing Katalya.
“Who knows” he murmured, “I wasn't going to come but I thought a lot about it these past two weeks. So I came here hoping to catch a glimpse of her from afar. Looks like she is not here after all”
He sounded very different from the arrogant guy she met at the port...
“She hasn't been able to stand up since the day she collapsed… So I think you have to show yourself if you want to see her. In that case I will help you.”
Khiel tried to stand tall. He tried to act indifferent but he was betrayed by his heartbroken look. That's where she was sure, he didn't hate his mother. He still cared.
“You still want to see her, don't you?” Ophelia asked, looking directly in his eyes, checking his every reaction.
“I am not sure… There are many reasons why I don't want to. But I need to hear the truth from her. I am sick of hearing everything from others. I need to find out by myself, even though I don't know if I have the courage…”
Ophelia was wary. Some of the temple girls were looking their way, other customers too. Though they were not as close as to hear their conversation, it looked suspicious from afar. This conversation couldn't take place now, she must act cautiously. For the sake of all.
“Tonight, in the Truth Chambers. Wait for me there. We’re already being watched”
