This is a poem I wrote for the Young Writers 2025 competition. It is a sort of made up story about someone who has a dream where they find a planet. It is all alone in the universe and has only just been created. It describes that in their head, they only need to ask one question: “Where has this beauty been?”. It describes the incredible fact that there is no pollution on the planet and that to the person, it is absolutely perfect.
Towards the end, they wonder what it would be like to live there and how they could live their kind of ‘perfect life’ and how there would be no arguing or fighting wars against each other. Just peace and harmony.
The last two lines of the poem are there to inspire others to take action and help our own planet be more like this dream, where pollution is stopped / reduced enough and the animals / wild spaces are protected by the ones who got everything into this huge catastrophe in the first place.
It is our duty, as the ones responsible for the mess, to our planet, our home, to protect it and help it recover from all the disasters that we as human beings have put it through.
