Coco Teal

Prologue

Prologue

Mar 10, 2026

There are many worlds within the universe of life. Some are connected, while others are not. I hail from Senrehi, the immortal world of light. Arkin, the immortal world of darkness, is intricately connected to my own.

Where there is light, there must be darkness.

Separating the immortal worlds are the mortal realms. They are the only thing stopping the collision of Senrehi and Arkin. Without those realms maintaining the balance between the two, our spot in this vast universe would cease to exist.

The mortals, ignorant of their connection to us, serve as a conduit of sorts. The amount of excess energy that overflows from Senrehi and Arkin travels to the mortal realms where it is harvested among the energies there.

This caused strife among the mortals for a time. Many, many eons ago, the realms were once one and lived in a now forgotten harmony. The energy seeping into the lands caused a shift within the inhabitants and altered the course of their existence. Over time, the energies of the land merged with the mortals, creating an interesting mix of abilities vastly different from my own.

The only race unaffected by the energies harmonizing with the mortal realm were humans. I do not know or understand how that came to be. Sorcerers, those with the ability to use the energies, or magic as they call it, originate from humans and grew to a formidable size.

Entals, a race tied to the elements, soon matched the strength of sorcerers. Humans, lacking any connection with the energies of their realm, became frightened of the formidable strength the other two races posed.

During this time of the energies settling, other races were created into existence. Faeries, elves, vampires, druids, demons, monsters, beasts; all types of life came into being during the time before the Separation.

The energies, after settling, never harmonized with humans. In their fear, the first trickles of war lay havoc to the mortal realm. One can only imagine the devastation that followed.

For a time, the war was contained between the humans, sorcerers, and entals. But greed sowed in the hearts of all mortals and opportunities for power became tempting bargains for those with ill intent.

A handful of sorcerers and entals desperately sought to find a solution after a devastating number of mortals lost their lives. Talk of surrender was foreign to the minds of all involved. Regardless of the consequences, an ancient spell lost to time was painstakingly unearthed. Together, the sorcerers and entals spoke the ancient language that would separate the realm into three.

While the spell allowed the realm to be split, it did not allow for its complete annihilation. Comprise had to be made through the use of portals, giving most mortals the ability to freely traverse the realms.

Humans, lacking any sort of energy, quickly faded from prominence. They no longer knew of sorcerers, entals, or other mortal beings beyond their realm. The strife faded from their memory and ceased to exist.

What is it about ignorance that keeps a blind world safe from destruction? Could it be that the human realm, with all its science and technology, was saved by the simple fact that it lacks any sort of energy?

The realm of sorcery is an interesting case. It survived one of the greatest tragedies known to its histories. A place in which an energy is touched but never seen. That has always been strange to me since I can see my energy. This is a realm where magic has rules and regulations of its own. The magic that flows through the sorcerers is very ancient. In order to properly harness its energy, sorcery has to be learnt over the course of a sorcerer’s lifetime.

The elemental realm is something I will never quite understand. It seems solid and untouchable, yet it has been hurt the most. The energy flowing through the entals comes from the very elements that surround them. They have protected their secrets well and have only to follow the rules and whims of their element.

The nature of my power does not come from the mortal earth.

It simply is.

I must clarify what I mean when I say the human realm has faded from prominence. Humans do not know of sorcery or entals, but their histories know it. Their politics, their leaders, their religions, their ideology, their unwillingness to change—all stem from influences given to them by sorcerers and entals alike.

It makes the human realm the perfect battlefield. Ignorance is not bliss. Sorcerers and entals do not hesitate to take advantage of the humans’ ignorance to magic and elemental wielding. Why destroy their own home when this one is ripe for the taking?

I could only watch as the events of the Separation unfolded all those years ago.

Sadly, I am Golau and Golau cannot directly interfere with the mortal realms—not without lasting consequences.

But, then again, I am very old and set in my ways. The knowledge that I possess will not stop what is about to pass.
