Hello readers!

Lori is unavailable this week so I'm filling in for her.

Every week when we post I always worry that my work isn't up to snuff. The first page of Ridgely Forge was my first time picking up my digital pen in nearly five years and my first time ever lettering a comic. It took me two weeks to do the first page, six days to do the second and now I can churn out pages in a day, including distractions. But even as my speed increases I'm unsure about quality. I can see where it can be improved, but at the same time I don't know how long it will take for me to get to that level. I'm always trying new techniques and spend my excruciatingly long bus commutes looking up tutorials so I can bring you, as readers, more polished pages. I hope it shows!

Ridgely Forge always poses a challenge for me on another front. Everyone here has different ideas on how the final product should look. Lori (author), William (artist) and Clara (myself, pixel monkey) have almost weekly tiffs about color choices. Mind you, my voice only rings out with "no, I can't use that color because it means this character will blend too much into the back ground" or "no, that simply isn't possible with my limited skill in digital coloring". Lori and William on the other hand disagree fundamentally, particularly on the colors of the houses and interiors. These days though, we defer to Lori's judgement in almost all matters because this is her vision and we are the middlemen bringing it to life.

Hopefully one day soon we will all be able to sit down and make a finalized palette not just for the characters, but for the overall world. It'll save us (me) time every page.

Don't forget to comment and subscribe if you're enjoying the comic!

Have a great day, everyone!

Palettes are a huge must for speeding things up and keeping them consistent. The graphics do keep improving, however, and hopefully that momentum keeps gathering ^^ | What is soap on a rope? Is it literally soap on a rope? I shall have to look this up 0.0
