Please, pleeease don't say "it could be worse" to someone struggling with mental health issues. We totally already know this. Anything could be worse than your current situation. You could drop your ice cream cone. Into a pile of cow poop. Then trip and fall into the ice cream-poop pile. Then the cow steps on you. It could always be worse. Reminding us of this just makes us feel guilty for feeling bad in the first place.
I began the webcomic series Pretty, Pretty Ugly as a way to cope with social anxiety disorder. Anxiety has always been a part of my life, and at times it has held me back and frustrated me. But through comics, I found a way to turn my frustration into communication. Pretty, Pretty Ugly is about seeing the humor in awkward moments, and letting go of expectations of what a “normal” person should be like. Learning to laugh through embarrassing moments has changed my life for the better, and I hope to make everyone else laugh/cringe with me!
