I'll have to confirm that magic is paternal in essence, so anyone who is a fire-user must've gotten it from their father.
Also if you noticed, fire has a color spectrum based on their temperature, red being the weakest and blue being the strongest.

That's quite the sinister look in that last panel! I love it! His eye looks so hollow (hopefully we find out more about him "burning" his own clan. Also, I really want to find out about Mike and Gerald. This does seem like it may be a chapter dedicated to the new characters though.
