Welcome to part one of a long-form series! Because of the time needed to do these longer comics, we're slowing down to one update a week for a while.

I have heard a LOT of weird things about my relationships, from people who know nothing about it except the theoreticals, and people who think all these comics are actually about cheating. Which is... okay, it's a little frustrating! So I'm making this one with all my thoughts about how my relationships affect my life.

The subject of this part is actually an amalgamation of a LOT of things I've heard. First, if people /believe/ that I'm aroace, they'll often have this misconception that all aroace people have zero desire to form commitment or have any feelings toward other people. Hopefully you can see from this comic that that is pretty *wrong*!

Of course there are also people who think asexuality isn't real and that it's just a word for Scared Straights who just want to be special. I'm really not making this stuff up though! It's been said to my face.

Feel free to ask questions in the comments, but also know there will be more after this, especially stuff about how relationships work when you're aroace! It'll be fun I'm sure.

(song of the now is Under Stars by Aurora)

Edit from Feb. 9th: It was brought to my attention that at least one person responded very negatively to the portrayal of the strawman here (affectionately dubbed Susan), specifically that they took issue with the character being 'angry brown and allo (which means non-asexual)'. First I do recognize the issue of an angry character yelling at a white person is problematic, but also, Susan was based on a real person, while her words are more general. Just thought I ought to note that here because, while most reading wouldn't know, the IRL Susan was non white and non asexual. I recognize it's not the best impression without this real context, but I hope you'll understand. Thank you!
