I wouldn't have forgiven him that easily, especially considering how stupid his reasoning for attacking them in the first place was. Just like Gaero was told--he could have killed this guy while he was imprisoned and didn't, so he's got nobody to blame but himself. Instead he blames others and attacks them on top of it.
