HISTORIC NOTE: Marie did in fact burn herself often while handling the radioactive materials. It didn't take the Curies long to realize the burns were coming from the radiation, but Marie would NEVER admit that Pierre's habitual illness and her own health problems later in life were the result of radiation. She believed strongly in "her radiation" as nothing less than a medical miracle.
