I'm sure most readers will recognize the famous axiom from René Descartes, "I think; therefore, I am." When I pondered what Mr. Brick's first thoughts would be, I realized there could be no greater starting point. Ultimately, in Descartes view, everything is uncertain. Everything we see or feel comes to us indirectly, through our senses. The entire world around us could be an illusion. As you "peel back the onion," as Descartes did, dispensing with everything that can be doubted, seeking whatever can be considered TRUE truth, one inescapable reality remains: you're thinking. By the very act of doubting reality, you are demonstrating one CERTAINTY: your thoughts are real. You have consciousness. You exist. You think. Therefore, you are. Cogito ergo sum.
