Historical notes for this chapter:
-The questions up on the board is are actual questions the Nazis would use to subliminally enforce their propaganda.
- Potential historical inaccuracies in the school scene: I've taken a few liberties, some sources say children would wear their HJ uniforms, but I've seen pictures with people in casual clothes, and I've read that kids would start the school with a song, but I struggled to find any lyrics, and to make sure the pace doesn't slack I've omitted that. This 'triple victory' bit comes from Tomi Ungerer's 'Tomi: A Childhood under the Nazis (1998)' although his experience was from an occupied French perspective. I also couldn't find much on whether teachers would teach one subject or were specialised teaching one, so I presumed, since the kids are 13/14 here, that any teacher could teach any subject. Apart from that I've tried to be as accurate as possible.
-propaganda/rewritten history would always use the unfair treaty of versailles as evidence of Germany being betrayed, which is what Mag and unnamed boy are talking about.
-"November Traitors" refers to the men who signed the Treaty of Versailles, they were presumed to have backstabbed Germany.
-League of Soldier's Mattresses: an actual name the Edelweiss Pirates gave for the BDM, on account of their training to be perfect, subservient wives.
- Eva is saying the music sounds different since swing was banned in Germany, mainly since it came from "non Aryan" roots.
