As class started, you sat in your ordinary seat. The situation would have been rather awkward if it hadn’t been for the fact that something completely different was occupying all your thoughts. Once you entered the classroom, Kaname had asked you all for a favor. Everyone had seemed really surprised by this, and even hesitant to agree. Of course, you weren’t aware of much, even at this point, but you couldn’t seem to connect everything.
Even though you had been a part of their society for quite some time now, this had made you realize just how much in the dark you still were. Even though they obviously obeyed him and followed by his wishes, they still questioned his decisions. From what you had gathered, he had the power to force them into obedience if he would so desire. If that was the case, then why did he feel the need to ask you all as if it was a request rather than an order? You had obviously played along and agreed to this request, but it still bothered you.
Another thing that didn’t make sense was the fact that everyone seemed so conflicted. It was one thing for you, who was unaware of the ways of vampires to find yourself confused, but for everyone else to be questioning the situation, there had to be something off. Despite this, you couldn’t figure out what part of this had them on edge, neither did you want to make a fool out of yourself by asking them directly. Seeing as nobody else had touched the subject since then, you decided to follow suit, but still...
Class continued as regular, that is, until the presence of a large group of vampires could be sensed not too far away. As if on cue, everyone in the room seemed to react faster than stray cats, that including you, and only seconds later the entire night class was gathered outside, surrounding the vampires who were apparently from the senate. As they seemed to be after Zero, the only logical conclusion you could come up with was that they had come there because of Shizuka Hio’s death. Along with informing you of her death a few nights ago, they had also mentioned that this was likely to happen sooner or later, seeing as the killing of a pureblood vampire was one of the most serious crimes one could commit, and that the only atonement was death.
“It was inevitable for Shizuka to be hunted down by Zero for what she did” Kaname said, breaking the silence while also attracting the attention of every single senate-member present. They all seemed shocked, both by his words and his presence, but soon grasped the situation and got down on one knee. “Lord Kaname” was all they said in unison while bowing their heads in respect. “Tell me; Why do you all feel so strongly about Zero’s execution? To protect the so called sanctity of purebloods?” he then asked, sarcasm and irritation dripping from his every word.
“Lord Kaname, if a pureblood such as yourself stands in our way we can not complete our mission” one of them answered, stating the obvious in an attempt to gain his understanding, although they were probably aware that the chances of this succeeding were slim. “Perhaps you don’t realize this academy is very dear to me. I don’t want it spoiled by foolish acts of vengeance performed by the senate’s henchmen” he then retorted, eyes turning red as he purposefully injured the man that had been speaking, driving his point across quite forcefully. “Leave now” he then demanded, most likely feeling quite done with the seemingly pointless conversation.
“Your choice to protect Zero Kiryu shall be reported back to the senate, Lord Kaname” was the last thing he said, before every single one of them left the area. A conversation then begun between Kaname and Zero. Even though it may have seemed polite on the surface, everyone could tell that was but a mere act. What his intentions were in saving Zero just now, you could not yet tell, but something in your gut said it had to do with Yuki. Honestly though, that seemed to be the largest reason why that man did anything. Even though you could not quite wrap your head around why, your best guess was that she played a bigger role in everything than you were all aware.
Once Zero left, not long after that, a small quarrel broke out between Kaname and Yuki. Well, not exactly, seeing as Yuki was the only one who seemed to lose her temper and become upset. She argued that Zero was innocent, and even though Kaname said he acknowledged her statement, it was obvious even to her that he was brushing her off. To be honest, you probably would’ve been upset as well if you were in her position, seeing as, like she stated, he was basically talking down to her as if she was a child.
When the argument broke out, Takuma was quick to tell everyone to head back to the dormitory. You, however, did not follow along with them, and instead decided to stay there with Takuma, to which he didn’t seem to object, probably because he knew you weren’t about to cause a scene about Yuki having insulted Kaname.
Their entire argument ended with Yuki threatening to never speak with him again unless he admitted that Zero was innocent. You kind of felt bed for him, but at the same time he had just acted like a complete asshole, so it was sort of difficult to synthesize with him. Takuma, on the other hand, started giggling at the whole scene that had just unfolded in front of him. “This isn’t a children’s quarrel here” he stated between laughs, seemingly angering Kaname, as he blew a hole in a tree, right next to Takuma’s head, this obviously meant as a threat.
Takuma obviously started apologizing immediately, and usually you would’ve simply laughed at his expense later, but it was as if something inside you snapped. It was like you lost control over your own body, as if you were simply observing everything from a distance. The atmosphere changed becoming so tense you could cut it with a knife, and a strong wind started blowing as if on cue. Both the males’ attention soon turned to you, and ‘you’ started speaking in a voice you couldn’t recognize. One that was dark and cold, almost lifeless. Actually, if you were ever asked to picture a female devil’s voice, that’s probably how it’d sound. “Are you trying to pick a fight with me, Kaname?” it said, venom dripping from each uttered word.
Much to your surprise, he didn’t even seem surprise or confused by the situation, he only smiled, or smirked rather. It was almost like he had anticipated the reaction, like he knew what was going on. Takuma, on the other hand, looked as if he was at a loss for words. Although, he soon took the situation into his own hands by grabbing you by the arm and telling you to calm down. He went on to tell you that it was his fault for saying something he shouldn’t have, and that it was nothing for you to get upset about.
After feeling the tug on your arm and hearing his words, it was as if you woke up from a dream, and your mind was in a haze. You weren’t even sure if what you’d just seen had actually happened or if it had been a figment of your imagination. You decided to confusedly look up at Takuma, as if telling him that you had absolutely no idea what just happened, and his expression couldn’t be described as anything but terrified.
Not long after, he quickly excused the two of you and started dragging you back to the moon dorm. Looking back, you could see how Kaname was still wearing that amused smirk as his eyes didn’t leave the two of you for a second. Finding that gaze somewhat unsettling, you instead decided to look forward, directing your energy to keeping up with Takuma.
With the quick pace the two of you were walking in, it didn’t take long before you reached the dormitory where you were met by the usual gang in the lounge area. This time, however, they all seemed really concerned about something, more than they had when they left not long ago. “Hey, do you guys know what just happened?” Akatsuki then asked, being the first to speak up about the reason for their confusion. However, not having any clue as to what he was talking about only made you that much more confused about the whole situation. “Could you wait a second?” Takuma then asked him, before turning his attention back to you.
“You should probably go ahead and get some sleep, you seem pretty tired” he then said, trying and failing to cover up the fact that he was hiding something from you. “What’s going on? Is something wrong, Takuma?” you asked him, hoping to god you’d get some sort of an answer out of him. “It’s nothing you need to worry about, everything’s fine. Although, you did space out pretty royally earlier, I’d say you need your fair share of rest” he answered while reassuringly patting your head. You were fully aware that he was still hiding something, but you understood at that point that no matter how much you pressed him on the subject, you still weren’t going to get an answer out of him.
“I guess you’re right, I probably should. I do feel a bit out of it, so I guess I’ll go to bed. Goodnight” you say, the deject way too obvious in your voice for your liking. “Sweet dreams” he stated before somewhat nervously planting a quick kiss on your forehead. If it hadn’t been for the situation, you probably would’ve grown flustered by that action, but instead you simply gave him a nod before heading off toward your room.
Once you were out of the room Takuma released the breath he had subconsciously been holding. “Alright Takuma, tell us what you couldn’t tell her. That presence, what was that exactly” Senri then asked, his gaze fixated on Takuma as if he was trying to read his soul. “I don’t know how it’s possible, but it came from (f/n). She suddenly started acting like someone else, she even went so far as to threaten Lord Kaname. Although, it seems like she doesn’t even remember doing it, that’s what scares me the most about this situation really” he explained, shocking everyone in that room beyond belief.
“I always thought there was something off about her...” Ruka then stated, being the first one to break the tense silence. “Yes, well... If anything, her backstory is a little weird when you think about it” Takuma then stated, not really wanting to be suspicious of you, but not being able to simply ignore what had just happened. “We all know that her family was killed by a pureblood and that she somehow survived, but when you think about it that outcome is highly unlikely. Even if she’s a vampire, he could’ve killed her if he so desired, so why didn’t he? He let her live, and my gut tells me that what just happened is related somehow” he then continued, making a tense eye contact with the ground.
Author's note! Alright, so I told you guys with the last chapter that I was back to writing and yet then it took weeks until this update came out. I still stand by what I said, I am back to writing. Now, hear me out, I might not update every single week from here on out, but I will start updating as often as I possibly can. I've previously struggled with trying to update even though I knew I couldn't, which has only resulted in more work for me and longer periods of tie between every update. So, instead I've decided that weeks where I feel like I can't update, I won't stress over it. That way I'll come back quicker. I hope this doesn't bother any of you since it technically means you'll get more updates. Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this chapter and that you're looking forward to the next one! //Yours truly, Handsomesquid :3
