Ankou

This drawing is two years old, but it's one of my favourites!
In Acadian folklore, death was called Ankou. Usually it was a person or skeleton with a black robe and hat, closely resembling the popular European Reaper. It was rumoured that the Ankou changed, with the first person who died that year taking up the role, finally being put to rest by the new year, when another soul took up the job. He’s usually seen riding a cart with black horses.
From and educated friend:
The legend stretches back further, being tied to the Brythonic-Celts (Anghau in Welsh, Angow in Cornish, and Ankoù in Breton. This was intergrated into Maritime culture due to Acadians ancestors being largely Breton and Norman.
