Alrighty friends, I apologize for my unreliability with uploads this past week or so. I was hoping to be back in full force by now but the world is crazy and moving is hard.
I'll get back into things properly as soon as I possibly can - I'm wrapping up a big chapter in my life at the moment, so things are proving to be unpredictable. I expect I'll be back on track for regular novel updates next weekend - if not, I'll be sure to communicate an updated return date for each novel (and I mean each one! It's time to finally bring back Valla and Doren, Alice and Aurum, and Gardenia and Arden) for shortly after that.
In the meantime, the deadline for the tapas daydreaming comic is today. If you have a little bit of time, I hope you can take a look at the now-completed short story, When a Kitten Chases a Butterfly.
It's my first comic, and I am an amateur (as evidenced by the fact that I almost forgot to upload the last three pages), but reflecting on the topic of daydreaming and childhood and putting this little story together brought me a lot of peace over the course of a difficult month. I hope, maybe, that reading it might do the same for you.
Be safe and take care of yourselves! I'll be back soon.
Somewhere between lack of sleep working on my dissertation and losing my mind in word documents, data, and figure layouts, I found myself thinking a lot about the prompt of the latest Tapas contest, daydreaming and the meaning of childhood. I never really considered participating given the timing, but sometimes an idea starts to become scribbles starts to become sketches starts to become watercolors starts to become - you get the idea.
Ultimately, I ended up with a complete piece, and while my experience is limited and the work is very simple, working on it helped me out a lot recently. And so, I really wanted to share it with you all; hopefully it can bring you a small bit of peace and a smile to your face.
The comic is a simple slice of life piece inspired by my memories of playing outside as a child as well as the antics of various family pets over the years. If you have a moment to check it out, I'd love to hear your thoughts and share some reflections on your own childhood experiences!
Here's the cover - it's ten pages, with a page going up about once every two days. Let's go!
Phew ok friends, I am almost back to normal, and a bit ahead of schedule at that:
I have finally, finally, finally defended successfully!
After a few more weeks of formatting edits, panic, and moving, I'll be free of graduate school and ready to freak out about the next part of my life. To all my fellow graduate students, I salute your hard work and wish you all the best as you finish out! It really does feel so much better on the other side.
Now, that means that soon (a couple weeks at the latest!) I'll be back here properly and able to settle in, catch up on my fellow creators' wonderful stories, and buckle down on finishing The Fake Saintess Arc 1 as well as my novels on hiatus. Thank you all very much for your patience and support!
Now - you'd think, from all that blather, that I would never ever dare to start posting a new project in the middle of all of this. And yet....
Also!! To my fellow creators, for the same reasons I will be unable to engage much with any comments on my own chapters, I will not be able to keep up with all of your wonderful works for a little while (I am already behind on my reading list I know 😓).
I will be back though and I will (very happily) be able to binge-read everyone's updates once this period of work/school is over! Keep up all your great work and stay safe and healthy in the meantime 💕
I thought I had set up a scheduled update for this week... and yet, clearly, that was not the case, as nothing was posted Saturday. 🫠
Things are simply chaos in my other Real Life (TM), and will continue to be for another month or so. Therefore! To avoid this happening again I will stock up a long set of future chapters, all scheduled, and no break should occur.
And, as an apology, I will post the next update early on Thursday, with regular scheduling starting again Saturday. 🐣
In the meantime, please know that all your comments and feedback make my day and keep me going! I am not always able to respond promptly to individual comments but you have no idea how meaningful it is to receive them. 💕
Trans rights are human rights every month of the year.
In these times especially, pride month is an opportunity to take some time to learn from and (if you can) support organizations that help protect trans folks such as the Transgender Law Center.
And of course, support LGBTQIA+ creators here on tapas!
Last week I posted the first mature-tagged chapter in The Fake Saintess Wants too Save the World. It has occurred to me since then that for chapters where the only reason for a mature tag is a bit of profanity, making a censored version is an easy thing, and if I can do something that makes the story more accessible I want to do that. I don't want to remove the profanity from the original chapters since I think it has a proper place in the story / characterizations, but this way you'll have the option to avoid that kind of content as readers without missing out on any of the story.
I will say that I do not know yet how I'll try and do the same for upcoming chapters with other mature tags (violence / gore etc). As of now I think I'll post a summary episode after each one for anyone who prefers to skip the action / violence itself. There's nothing too intense in Arc 1, but I'd like to make it easier for anyone who wants to avoid certain mature chapters to get the full narrative / plot as much as possible.
And with that explained, a censored version of chapter 24 Mistrust has been uploaded! The regular chapter update is coming tomorrow morning as always of course ✨
And as a bit of art to go with this announcement, here's my attempt at drawing a lynx thumbnail (Erik's associated symbolic animal)
