An Unexpected Miracle

Act One - Overture

Act One - Overture

Jun 13, 2025

Fairytales. It's true that logic doesn't rule in them. It's not that it doesn't exist, it's that it's governed by other kinds of rules: the rules of the heart. Did you notice? No one questions that a shoe can change a destiny, or that a kiss can wake someone from an eternal sleep. Because in that world, the emotional carries more weight than the rational. And that... that's liberating. It gives you permission to feel without apology. To believe without having to justify yourself.

And I think I'm pretty sure it's time for me to tell you one of my favorite stories...

Once upon a time, far, far away in the big city, in a very different time of ours, there was an very strict law in it - the prohibition of alcohol. No one could drink, sell, or even smell a glass of wine without risking arrest. Bottles lay buried, bars were just closed, and the music… the music played softly, as if they too were on the run from the law.

It was an very dark age for the city. Everyone loved alcohol and it was a kind of fashion. Unfortunately, this lead to many, many protests related to it, but the government didn't listen. It wasn't until the very coming of the speakeasy business. These speakeasies were made undercover and far away from the law.

An anthropomorphic cat with the name of Frank Lizbert, thinked about the situation and, with his wife Elizabeth, he decided to open a Speakeasy with the traits of each one of them in the city. Believe me, this was a hidden sucess in the city, far away from the ears of law, making every antropomorphic cat to go and search some whisky or vine in there.

It seems like the happy in-going, but it wasn't. Frank died, mysteriously. To clarify this, it must be made perfectly clear - there was no way about it. The two lovebirds had been doing this for many years. In fact, the sign "Marglow Bar" still stood on the entrace of it. To make matters worse, the death certificate was signed by only one person but important to be knew: Elizabeth Hendricks, his beloved wife.

What a misunderstood woman. She was loving, patient, but withdrawn. Her soul was frozen by the past. She walked the streets with such a serious expression that no one knew why she was always like that. Rumors said that her past has to do with the withdrawn personality and serious expression. Others say that it was, indeed, normal.

Many people say that past can return in any moment, isn't it? Elizabeth passed by the same situation after the death of Frank. She, who does not believe in witches, magic, fantasy and sorcery, tries to convince herself that it was all a product of the devil itself. Until, Najima Courvoisier, an evil cat sorcerer, appeared next to her.

Wearing an belly dancer dress, combined with the dress of a witch, Najima reveals to her that 'her revenge' wasn't over yet. What was her backstory? She worked in there. She was a worker for Frank, and was the best of the Speakeasy. But she turned out to be an evil, power-hungry and ruthless. Frank fired her and banished her from his speakeasy, but he was so angry that she decided to devise her plan of revenge.

"Frank told you to never come here ever again!" -Elizabeth shouted to her.

"I was supposed to be his confidant, and I came to offer my sincere apologies." -Najima said, with an grining face and a face that feigns kindness.

"Confidant? You liar! You almost ruined us!" -Elizabeth shouted, once again.

"Do you, you pathetic cat, think that you can banish Najima the Great ever again from this speakeasy? After all i did for it? That's why i came here! To CURSE you, with an incantation." -Najima said, changing her face from fake kindess to a face of full repudiation.

"Mark my words, Elizabeth. YOU! And your bar will lose the attention it deserves in less than five days. You'll be jealous of me and dark magic itself!" -Najima said, with total fury.

"If there's any way you can break this spell I cast, it's by having the heiress to that idiot's money share a true love's kiss with the most beautiful and handsome cat this city has hidden away!" -Najima said, with total determination.

"What are you meaning with that?" -Elizabeth said with anger and confussion.

"Don't you know...? Then, mark the description of him that i'm going to tell ya'. Don't forget it, or otherwise, your bar is doomed." -Najima said.

The description she gave of this beautiful cat was very simple: a loaf of bread that doesn't fit the established mold, a long sky-blue raincoat, a distinctive Irish hat, snow-gray fur, and eyes as blue as the sea. And the most important thing to keep in mind: a kind and sweet attitude.

Najima dissapeared in a flash, and Elizabeth was left alone. Five days later, the curse began. Nobody came to the bar, and it seemed like a desert. The workers were quitting one by one, leading to the conclusion that Najima's incarnation was nothing but a true prophecy. Seven of the 40 workers of the bar were left.

Elizabeth was confused. REALLY confused. She didn't know what was Najima referring to. But the question was really clear and yet to be resolved: Who is the person Najima was talking about? What haves to do with all of this? And most importantly:

Who?

The Story's Prologue.

A town is under Prohibition. Frank and Elizabeth, two anthropomorphic cats, open a speakeasy. After Frank's mysterious death, his wife is cursed by Najima, a former employee turned witch, who predicts the bar will fall... unless an heiress gives true love's kiss to a very special cat. Elizabeth must find that cat before all is lost.

A story inspired by Lackadaisy Cats and 90s Disney.

1920. A speakeasy ruled by antropomorphic cats has been cursed by an evil cat sorceress. The curse only could be broken, if the most beautiful cat in the city would kiss the money heiress of that speakeasy. Who is this cat?
