Vik walked around the lake, holding his beginner fishing pole close to his chest, looking for the best place to cast his line. The water's still appearance was beautiful, almost the perfect type to go swimming in, but today he had a different mission, he was going to catch the biggest fish, and win the fishing tournament. He really needed the cash, of course, he didn't exactly play this game a ton, but hey, he loved any help he could get.
He stopped walking, swung the pole over his shoulder and cast, and sadly exhaled when he didn't hear the pleasant sound of the lure splashing into the water, no worries though, he knew exactly where it had landed. He turned around to see it firmly sitting in the large oak tree behind him, he scoffed before rolling up his sleeves and walking to the tree to climb it.
"Well, that's a predicament," a ginger-haired guy said, walking towards him.
"Thanks, Captain Obvious," he said, annoyed, dropping the pole, he hiked one of his legs up, and grabbed a nearby branch, starting his climb.
"Why climb the tree?" The other guy asked again.
"Well, don't you see the stuck hook?"
I asked, you know, not expecting an answer because I was right.
"Just despawn that bitch."
"I can despawn the fishing pole?"
"Duh? It's a Virtual Game, you can do practically anything you want to do."
"Hmmm," Untrustingily, he opened his inventory, and selected the pole, there was in fact an option to despawn. He selected the option, and the pole disappeared from the tree and reappeared safely back in his inventory. "Neat!" Vik exclaimed happily, but quickly corrected his facial expression to look unimpressed.
I refused to let this know-it-all be cooler than I was.
"Well, you're welcome," the other guy said walking away, "Oh, and by the way, I expect a five-star review on yelp,"
"I didn't catch the name," Vik yelled after the guy.
"It's Jazz, nice meeting you Vik," he said walking off in the other direction.
"How'd you get my name?"Vik shook his head, confused, he didn't remember telling him, it was a short exchange, and he was certain they hadn't met before. Vik shrugged, puzzled, or well, at least he was until he checked his notification bar...
'Jazzy4 has stolen a fishing pole, sticks, 100g, and carrots from the inventory of player Vikton_231'
God damn it.. I got robbed, from literally right under my nose. Damn gingers, they got no soul stealing from a poor man.
Vik sighed, and hung his head defeated before walking over to the bank of the pond, and opening the player list. He scrolled the list of unfamiliar names and faces before finding the one he was looking for, the snarky, swindling, green-eyed, ginger. He clicked the bright blue button next to his name, 'Send Friend Request', and the game chimed alerted him it had been done. No going back now.
Who knew that night would be the one that changed my life? I mean, all I had done was sent a friend request. It wasn't that big of a deal right? Yeah, no, that's what I thought. I wish I could say that's where our story ended, but it was strictly just the start yeah, more like a prologue. My adventures with Jazz were just beginning, and trust me, you'll wanna stay for the ride.
