The following is a totally true tale of a thing that actually happened called The Great Sandbar Duel. It's about the American hero Jim Bowie and basically cements him as an all-around badass for generations to come (not to mention knife-fighting schools in his style). I did the best research a respectable person has the time for (Wikipedia) and even watched a reenactment video on YouTube. One or two liberties might have been taken here and there.
