One day, at the crossroads of life, three different creatures looked at each other. The mere existence of one was the key to the salvation of the others.
First was the black cat without a heart but with seven lives. Second was the writer without a life but with a pure soul. And third was the Wyslain without a future but with infinite dreams.
-----
With the loss of his most precious person, the black cat had also lost his heart.
"They live forever," the black cat mother told her cubs about their human. "My mother was here, her mother was too, and you will be too. I hope that none of you will see the day when they will vanish because that will be the day your heart will cease to exist."
The black cat remembered her words vividly. "But if a day comes when they vanish, seek another heart as soon as you can. Your lives will not matter without a heart."
----
The writer lived a fruitless and seemingly meaningless life, where nothing ever fell into place. They were merely waiting for the day they would die, as the act of living itself felt like an unbearable torment.
It was a life filled with adversity, marked by one medical condition after another, and plagued by limitations at every turn. Their physical health may not have been at risk, but their mental well-being was in ruins.
----
The Wyslain, an immortal creature ravaged by an incurable disease that was destroying her soul and even her immortality, sought a cure everywhere with the help of her brother.
After using his singularity to explore countless universes and facing numerous failures, her brother, with the help of a dreamhunter, saw a soul so pure he could not believe his eyes.
**
At the crossroads of life, an accident occurred.
The black cat was going to die, but the writer saved its life at the cost of their own. Like everything about the writer's life, that act seemed too useless since the cat had seven lives. Their life was going to waste, and they knew it, but they couldn't stop their body from moving.
In that moment, two contracts were made.
Feeling warmth in the place that once was a heart, the black cat decided to give its seventh life to the writer on one condition: they would live together from that moment on.
The Wyslain, witnessing everything, begged the writer for help, and another contract was made. The disease of the Wyslain would be cleansed with the pure soul of the writer, and they would all live together from that moment on.
The writer, for they didnt want to die in vain, accepted the black cat's contract
The writer, for they didn't want to see the Wyslain die, accepted Keeh’ra's contract
As they asked the writer what they wanted in return, the both of them received the same answer:
“Please, share your life story with me, don't spare any details. I am genuinely eager to hear every aspect of it.”
While it may seem like the end of their encounter's story, for these three creatures, it's just the beginning of their journey.
