Barbara woke to Jean running around the apartment. After having to rush out the next day on her day off. She because of some damn nonsense in the hill . They decided to spend the evening at Jean's apartment.
"I thought you had no special project this morning. Why are you in such a rush." She tried to hide the amusement in her voice but failed.
"I don't. But who knew they would move up the Cakey Contest. It's my last chance to fleece the… Um I mean I should be there to help make things run smoothly." A nervous giggle escaped. "It's a big event after all."
She raised an eyebrow at her girlfriend's obvious lie. (It seems I have found a naughty little kitten.) A smirk formed on her lips. "You know this sounds very interesting. I'll drop you off having a look sounds fun."
"No!" She shrieked in low volume sounding more like a squeak.
Barbara Burt's into laughter. Jean's dear in headlights expression was too much to take "You are so adorable. "
Redhead scowled at her. "I don't see what's so funny."
Her humor fell away as her eyes landed on the soft reddened bottom lip that popped out as the woman began to pout. She walk over hands raised. "Alright, I'll stop teasing. You can have your little mischief. I will pretend to know nothing". Barbara glides her arms around the woman's waist. A loving kiss landing onto her cheek. "I know you are a good girl. I am sure you are having harmless fun."
Jean blush. "Why does everything you say always becomes pleasing to my ears." She turns inward seeking the warmth offered to her.
"I don't know about pleasing, but we always find or way to a good understanding." She lowers her head, taking a long sip of her lips. "We should get ready to leave or you will be lucky to make it to work."
Jean pulls her head back down. "I am starting not to mind so much."
Slate parked his car, slowly walking up the path. He didn't want to drive up it would ruin the tracks still left from the jeep, but a shadow now after the fallen rain. The police never ventured this far up luckily. There was too much to clean up.
Every step he took brought back the moments when all was lost. The sounds repeated all yesterday as his father lectured him. He barely remembered the things he said. When all he could hear was Granite's steps behind him. As he called after him. All he could see, is the disappointed look on his face, as he backed away from the armed guards.
The jeep still sat there. He had hoped to see it gone as some sign that he was somehow still alive. His heart lighten when he found the customized weapon sitting in the driver's seat. (A keepsake.At least I have some way of keeping you with me.) Tears threaten to fall. He swallowed the invisible lump in his throat. "No, It's fine. I'm used to this. I knew this was not going to last. " He looked at the sky wanting so badly to scream. (You didn't trick me. I've known for a long time how cruel you are. ) "I can walk alone."
