The ability to manipulate the raw Arcana that flows through all things was once a trait reserved only for the beings born of it. These beings were few and revered as demi-gods on an equal footing to those of the great pantheon. This was life on the continent of Gillium until a young man found the secret that would make him the First Mage, one who can manipulate magic without having been born of it.
The First Mage passed on all his secrets to all that he could, and his teaching spread. A new age began and for 10,000 years the people of Gillium flourished living in an Era of High Magic.
In modern-day, Arcana is used to power lights, vehicles, the simplest tools, and even people untrained in its use can command it. The title of Mage, however, is still considered sacred and is given only to those who have completed rigorous training and learned all the secrets of Arcana. Lest Acciaio is one such person, who now takes his final steps in becoming a full Mage and his first steps to starting a journey that will define his destiny.
