In this horrid city, the lives of four children connect, each hoping to escape Glenwatch and reach the fabled city of Whisp, where men and women are equal and everyone is free to do as they like.

For Joseph, it is a chance to be himself, a gentle person who does not desire power, only to solve puzzles. For Ellie, it is a place she can read anything, not just in secret with Joseph. For Haytham, it’s a chance to have grand adventures and to protect his friends. For all three it is a chance to escape the Glenwatch orphanage together. But time is running out with adoption day rapidly approaching for the older children. The arrival of Sienna, captured from a border nation and enslaved in Glenwatch, provides an opportunity to escape. But can they make it out?
