Set in Afghanistan's deadliest province, “Helmand” interweaves true stories, with a satirical diplomats tale to provide a front row seat, to an inaccessible war.
A collaboration between British and Afghan artists; beautiful illustrations, meticulous research, and expert political analysis, give readers a front row seat to an inaccessible war.
The debut project of Conflict Comics, a collective dedicated to telling real war stories.
THE TEAM
Steven Healer - Writer
Retired British Diplomat. Head of the Strategic Communications Team on a military base in Helmand (2013). School Teacher (2022).
Dominic Culverwell - Artist
An award-winning illustrator and journalist from Oxford. Dominic's work has been exhibited internationally, with recent contributions to “The Revolution of Dignity in Ukraine”, and “Pro-Democracy Movement in Hong Kong” art festivals. Dominic combines art and journalism to break down complex topics, and tell important stories, from conflict areas.
Naseem – Artist
Naseem’s illustrated books promoting democracy were distributed to schools throughout Afghanistan. After the Taliban came to power Naseem relocated to Germany. He lives in Hamburg with his wife, children, and cats.
Archana Bhanushali – Digital Manager
Owner and Artist “Ace Tattooz”, Mumbai, India.
