Prologue - an offer you can't refuse

Hello and welcome to Honestly Not a Robot!
I used to work in retail and it's one of those jobs where people say "Oh if I could write a book about the stuff I've seen..." but I finally got out and realised: I really do need to write this down!
Here begins the (mostly true) ups, downs and WTF moments that working in a supermarket entails, the toll it can take on those who work there and WHY we get to that situation in the first place.
(Ignore the timestamps saying I uploaded this in 2019, I reuploaded a new version in 2023. A few comments may reference this version.)
