Mine was caught early (age 4, used to be called Asperger's), but I forgot I was diagnosed. Knew I was weird, different, but I was at peace with that, until I actually learned the name of the diagnosis in high school. I shut myself down more than I used to, developed worse anxiety, became a recluse, only going to college classes. Still had issues adjusting to change, and neuroticism/shame got to the point where parents had to seek out help. Was re-diagnosed at 31. Began to research more about the spectrum, and got some treatments, and I can honestly say that I no longer mask or hide behind anxiety rn. Might still have my moments in public, and apprehension issues, but it's a step above where I once was, and I can only go forward (sorry for the heart-baring-info-dumping, I'm a little autistic XD)
