She glanced back at her husband's body, and the man who had bent over it, before running towards the Dread Mountains.
The baby in her hands cried quietly, knowing that something wasn't right. It watched as its mother ran past the empty houses of the village in the direction of the woods beyond the farmlands. The moonlight lit the pair as they made their escape, mere ants in a large field, before the darkness provided by tall trees covered them.
After what seemed to be hours of running, she reached a stream. They were in the small forest that surrounded the base of the closest mountain in the Cordillera, at a tributary that would soon join the Imperial river. It winded down the light slope, the moonlight making the fine line of water appear to glow brightly, and for just a moment, she stopped to rest.
"You shouldn't have paused." A large hand grabbed her shoulder.

He was a tall man, whose great height was not supported by a fitting build, and instead resembled a lamppost more than it did a person. To be fair, he wasn't a person, but rather a being of great evil who had just slaughtered an entire village for the sake of entertainment
Karamis picked up the child, observed it, and walked away, leaving the empty bag that was once a beautiful woman.
