In this coming-of-age tale, Josiah is the over-educated son of the second most powerful man in the empire. When his (truly evil) step-mother pushes him out of the tower/nest, he lands, much to his chagrin, an entry-level job as librarian assistant in the world’s largest institution of Netherworld spells.

The ancient head librarian is forced to hire him, exacerbating her instant dislike of everything about Josiah. She frequently “forgets” to pass on key details of his job, the lack of which can easily get his soul eaten by the increasingly more powerful entities he encounters in his duties.
