She was sent to kill the man responsible for her King and Queens death. They were just sitting there in the room and yet they came in and slaughtered them without a second thought. They stabbed them right in the hearts not even allowing for a scream.
She was standing behind the curtains looking out the window when they came in. She watched as they were killed and let out a loud scream. The men found her and walked over.
They stalked over like a deer surrounded by wolves. A deer so full of fear it finds itself unable to move an inch for fear it would be slaughtered as well. So there she stood frozen in fear watching as these men walked closer and closer to her.
There were three men. Each holding a sword that looked as if it could pierce even the thickest armors. The leader of the three moved over to her and in one swift movement, he grabbed her by the hair pulled her to the ground. His sword resting against her neck as the blood dripped down off the sword and onto her clothes.
Her heart pounding against her chest. Her head spinning as she tried to comprehend what was happening. All that she could figure out was whatever was going to happen next wasn't going to be good.
She watched as the man raised the sword placing it right above her chest ready to stab her, ending her life. He was going to kill her just as he had done to the King and Queen.
The sword began to fall but before it could touch her the door flew open. In came the guards followed by the prince. They guards ran at the men but within that split second, they were gone. The only trass of where they went was the open window blowing the curtains around.
Those men jumped out the third story window.
Without the hands holding her she fell to the ground. No one spared her a look, not even a glance. The guards ran out of the room to try and find those men, and the prince, he ran to his mother's side. He pulled her onto his lap burying his face in her chest letting tears fall out.
Once the cried of the prince were gone he moved. He stood up resting his mother on the ground and then turning around facing her. He walked over to her pulling her up by the hair until she was just lower than his eyes.
He looked down at her and asked her what on earth had happened. She choked out the words telling him of what had happened in the room. Her heart beating fast as her body shook with fear still, yet after everything, her shaking seemed to anger the prince even farther. He told her that she would be trained and sent out to find those who had done this. He told her that she would either do this or that he would put his sword through her and spare her the pain of a public death.
She didn't understand what was going on but she didn't want to die. She told him that she would do it.
He let go of her hair allowing her to fall back onto the ground, then walked out of the room.
That was her mission. Her own task. She either did this and died doing it or she came back failing and was killed for returning.
Those men that day killed for power, for information. She never saw their faces, but she was able to see a royal crest open one of their shoulders. It was of a black dragon with two swords piercing it, and that was the crest of only one kingdom she knew of. It was the kingdom of Friag.
She didn't know who the men were but she was determined to kill them now. She knew where they were and she knew that they wouldn't die easy, but she didn't intend to either.
She was going to kill them or die trying. She would not come back as a failure.
She started training the very next day. It was all new to her back she enjoyed it and picked up on everything very easily.
She preacted fighting and used all the different weapons they had. Each one just as easy as the last, fitting into her hand like it was made for her. Soon she had mastered all the weapons she had along with the art of hand to hand combat. That one was a little harder for her to learn but she still did it faster than most people did and she was proud.
After just a week it was time for her to leave. The prince told her she must go and she was ready.
She grabbed supplies and then headed to the gates.
When she arrived she found it hard to believe the crowd that was there. There were many of the knights that had helped her train. Each of them secretly admiring her and her strength. They had never seen anything like it before and it amazed them. None of them had told her how they felt and because of that she thought they all hated her and wanted her to leave, but that isn't at all how they felt.
There were also many families that came out watching her leave. They told her good luck or thanked for her what she was doing. There was even a little girl who presented her with a flower.
She felt like she actually belonged for a minute and for once that she was doing something right, but it was all destroyed the next moment when she noticed the price right beside the gate. Her heart sinking and all that happiness she felt was already gone.
His face in an angry frown as he watched her approach the gate.
She approached him stopping when she was right next to him. He looked at her and once again reminding her that if she failed that she would be killed and this time it would be in front of everyone so that everyone would know of her failure.
He looked away and then walked off. He didn't allow her to say anything, he just left.
She sat there frozen for a minute thinking of the words that he had said. She soon recovered herself and started walking again, stepping out of the gate and out of the kingdom she hadn’t left since she arrived there as a young child. The words of the prince the only thing on her mind right now. They cut deep into her burying themselves where they would never leave.
For years she had been the queen and Kings servant, and even through this she was never talked to. Everyone just acted as if she never existed. She knew that there was nobody that actually cared for her even is she was killed. She was no one and she knew that, but having the prince tell her that she was to be killed hurt her. She was used to being unknown but now if she died she would be known as the person who failed to find who killed their king and queen. She would be known for failing and she didn't want that to happen.
It hurt her to think that she was going to be known for that if she failed.
Tears began to surface but she refused to let them fall. She refused to be known as a failure. She wouldn't let them do this to her. She was going to be remembered for doing it and bringing justice to their king and queen.
She would not be forgotten.
She would have her name written in the books.
In history.
