Through snow, rain, sleet, or hard winds I'm running. When I was younger my parents would take me running on the beach everyday after school. Once I got older my parents started working more so there was no time to take me so I would go by myself. After a while they burried themselves in their jobs and had no time for each other, so they seperated. The divorce wasn't just hard on them but on me as well. There was even a battle of custody but in the end they decided to share custody. Since then I haven't ran because it only made me happy but also because it kept me sane.
I even joined the track team because I needed to run so bad. My coach made me captin of the team because she saw how determined I was. The seniors who felt that since they've been on the team the longest that one of them deserve to be captin of the team. I always had to remind them that I have the most expirence out of everyone else.
I won every competition but yet I still felt empty, yeah being a track star is my passion but I still felt this empty hole inside me. So I started dating one of the guys on my track team. In the end he wasn't able to fill the emptiness I felt in my heart instead he broke it.
Usually I don't go to parties because I can't stand messy drunks and thats the only thing at parties. Micheal; the boy I was dating; convinced me to go to one. When I walked in people from track team greeted me at the door. Even though everyone showed me nothing but kindness I still couldn't enjoy myself. So Micheal took me to an empty room "to talk" but when we got in five boys from the school came out of nowhere.
I knew exactly what was about to happen as soon as they showed their mischievous smirks. They came closer and closer to me making my heart jump out my chest. I'm strong but I will never be strong enough to fight six boys. I closed my eyes in defeat knowing that there was no point, but just as I was about to give in, someone came in and stopped them. It was a soft yet husky voice telling them to stop, but after that all I heard were people being hit, thrown to the floor, and being slammed into a wall. He picked me up bridal style and carried me out of the room and placed me in someone else's arms. I kept my eyes closed the whole time due to the fact that I was too terrified. When I finally opened my eyes I was in my cousins car.
I was too ashamed to report them and to add to that I had no proof and I didn't know the guy who saved me. But believe me I made Micheals life a living hell on the track. My cousin did the same to the other boys since they were on the basketball team. I eventually got them suspended for two weeks as well. They tried to gang up on me in the hallway after track practice was over but the janitor caught them and reported it. Its only been three days since they were suspended but life has never felt so peaceful.
My cousin Josh is like an older brother to me even though I'm three months older. He's just always been so protective of me. We even live in the same house together. His mom died of child birth and when he was fourteen his father went to jail for robbing a local pizza restaurant. He moved in with us three weeks later.
"You ready to go short top" Josh teased.
"When are you going to stop calling me short top" I groaned in response.
"When you grow past 5'5" he rebutted. I rolled my eyes then started to walk out the school.
"I've decided to go for a run so I don't need a ride I" informed him.
"But you said you'd pay for ice cream" he pouted.
"Tomorrow, I promise" I yelled out as I began to run.
I usually run from school to the beach which is about a two mile run and then for an hour I run around the beach. I've met alot of people at the beach like the little girl who lives across the street from the beach, she loves finding seashells and the lady who feeds the seagulls. But theres one person I don't know. He's been coming here all the days I have for the last month with a sketch book. He sits on a tree that fell a while ago and only looks up a few times.
Today I chose to finally talk to him to see what his deal is. "Hi" I smiled. I wasn't trying to frighten him but I scared the hebejebes out of him. I tried so hard to not laugh but I couldn't stop myself. "Are you ok" I giggled as I helped him up.
"Oh I'm fine... I'm ok... thanks" he stuttered as he started to brush himself off. I sat next to him on the tree and a slight blush went across his face, which was pretty cute. " um... hi" he finally said with a smile.
"So what's your deal" I asked getting straight to the point.
"What... what do you mean" he continued to stutter.
"Well I've been coming to run in on this beach since I was little and I've never seen you here and now you've been coming here all the days I have for the last month, why" I asked.
"Well ya'see, there was this girl at a party who was almost raped by six guys. I was walking out the bathroom when I saw some guy take a girl into a room where I previously saw five other boys go into. I knew that something horrible was about to happen, so I got my guys and we stopped them. I carried the girl out because she was in shock then I handed her to her cousin, who took her home safely. Two days later I'm in the car with friends and I see the same girl running around the beach and I decided to start coming here to make sure she stays safe" he explained with a big handsome smile.
I was so in shock I couldn't even blink. "You... you... your the one who saved me" I stuttered as I started to tear up. He swung his arm over my shoulders then ripped away my tears. "What's your name" I asked.
"Jayven" he answered as he removed his arm. Even though we just met I liked having his arm over me, it made me feel warm and fuzzy inside. "And your name is"
"Athena" I smiled before looking down at his sketch book. "So what are you drawing" I chirped.
"Ah nothing" he blurted as he tried to hide his book behind him.
"Oh come on, if your going to hide your book can you at least do a better job" I chuckled.
"If I show you, you can't think I'm some crazy fan boy, ok" he sighed as he brushed his hair back with his hand while handing me the book to go through it.
"Oh my gawd"
