Golden Claw looked out over the cavern, the sound of the waterfall flooding her ears. She watched as the wolves scampered and the pups fought for scraps of food. She let out a sigh, her ears folding backwards.
"Something bothering you..?" a voice called out, the sound of paws walking towards her. She looked up at the voice, meeting the eyes of Oak Fur. "Kinda...It's just the winter has been rough for us all...pups fighting for food...adults and elders arguing...the lack of food and herbs are getting to us..." she confessed, looking down at the rock she was currently laying on. "I know...But we've survived before...we can do it again..." he murmured.
"But at what cost..." Golden Claw sighed, more like she was talking to herself instead of him. Oak Fur laid beside her, gently laying his tail across her back. He saw her lips form a small smile, and smiled back at her.
She looked out over everyone. Here, no one was alpha it seemed. To her, it was almost as if everyone was a scout, fighting for food, shelter, and warmth. It was as though any one could break at any second.
She laid down her head, her fur so long it almost covered her eyes. She looked up at the water fall, knowing that the blizzard was just behind it. She shivered at the thought, and looked down, hiding her face. "Get some rest Golden Claw... You need it.." Oak Fur whispered, standing to his feet. Her ears twitched to the sound of his paw steps fading away.
She laid there, awake for what felt like hours, until finally taking Oak Fur's advice, her eyes closing as she drifted into her slumber...
