Born in a frigid world where the Sun never shines, thirteen-year-old Rea grows up watching her mama create intricate glass jewels, and is fascinated by the ancient legends these jewels portray. Life seems simple—until a troop of soldiers raids her home and arrests her mama. Determined to save her only family, Rea recreates jewels for a lieutenant in exchange for her mama's freedom.
