Wow, ok, that's starting to make more sense. I do have Google analytic though I'm probably just barely scratching the surface of that tool. I use it to see my numbers, the page view, bounce rate, geo location, and I check out which sites are bring in the most traffic (currently for me it's promoting on reddit.com).
I have no idea what to do with the google webmaster tools. lol I actually just figured out how to set it up a few minutes ago. And I followed their suggestions of adding site versions, select a preferred version, target country, and sitemap has me stumped... Do all sites just automatically come with a site map or is that something the webmaster has to make? lol sorry, I know that's probably a rookie question if ever.
So you recommend sites like google's adword or pandora over projectwonderdul?
I mostly end up using google webmaster tools to find keywords not present on google analytics for client sites and watch for any SEO error notifications.
Honestly I wasn't sure (the place I'm at now has a dedicated web developer so I can't assume anything just because I didn't do it myself). But it looks like you have to put together your google webmaster tools sitemap yourself.
This page has a pretty good explanation https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/156184?hl=en&authuser=2
I'd guess a comic site has enough content a sitemap would be useful, but a quick search seems to indicate a good number of automatic sitemap generators you can use.
Wow, thanks so much. You've given me a lot to wrap my head around. I'll have to look into Keyword. I haven't used that yet, and I think I just now have everything linked together and setup with Webtools. Just have to learn how to use it effectively. I've never really given much thought of target audiences and campaigns before in advertising. I've just kind of been blindly spam posting lol
ah and shoot, googe adwords and pandora. From what I know of the services, pandora probably isn't going to be cost effective for a webcomicker. It's good for some services but pretty expensive.
You might get solid results with adwords. I'd guess you'd end up paying a bit more, but they have some very powerful tools. You could probably do a bit of testing to see what sorts of results you're getting. It's probably worth some experimentation as long as the price isn't too high.
I'm sure you'll keep in mind whether you have anything on the site that converts readers into patrons/customers. It doesn't make much sense to take more expensive ads if there's no mechanism to make the money back. Organic growth and the bargain rate ads you're mentioning would probably be the way to go unless you can get a return on the investment.
