Like a Unicorn I Don't Exist

...Rex...

...Rex...

Jun 20, 2018

I said good bye to Sam's huge family promising I'd return sometime soon.

Sam drives to Jack's and when we got to the apartment we realise that the love birds had flown the coop probably went to Jack's mansion outside of town.

"We have the whole place to ourselves." I say heading towards the kitchen. "Do you want a tv dinner, frozen peas most likely for medical use or toaster waffles?" I ask going through the few things we had. "I guess Jack used the last of the groceries this morning." I say sighing. "I'll have to go to the store tomorrow." I tell myself mostly. "We, are going to do this whole shopping thing together, I can hardly let you out of my sight again." He tells me kissing my shoulder from behind. I shiver and pull away. "Sorry." he says smiling softly.

I try to lighten the mood by smiling. "How about we have waffles?" I ask pulling the box out.

After the waffles pop up Sam starts bowing. "What are you doing?" I ask. "Bowing to your magnanimous toaster skills!" He says obviously trying not to laugh. I laugh as I slowly take his waffles and run my tongue over them.

"What did you just do....?" Sam asks almost in shock.

"I licked them, they are mine." I tell him smiling as I skip off towards the dining room.

"You cruel, cruel woman!" He yells back. "3, 2, 1."

*POP*

"Thank you babe!"

I let out a laugh as he comes in smiling like a little kid. "Why didn't you just say you wanted extra?" He asks. "Cause I wanted to see your face." I tell him chomping down on my magic waffles. "These are really good." I tell Sam as I eat just a little faster.

"Slow down or you'll choke." He tells me.

"That's what she said." I say turning away as Sam just looks at me. "My siblings have corrupted you..." He gasps.

"Actually that was from your grandma." I tell him laughing. "I'm going to need holy water next time I go home." Sam sighs shaking his head. "Probably wouldn't hurt, especially in Travis' room, I'm sorry to be the one to tell you this but he has a big stash of...naughty things in his room." I say blushing a bit.

"He what?" Sam asks surprised.

"Magazines. Nude ones." I tell him sighing lightly.

"With this information I will be returning home for tonight." Sam says sighing. "Well don't be too hard on him." I tell him patting his hand with a chuckle. "I love you, so much." He tells me his forehead resting on my palm.

"We've known each other only a few weeks, and most of that time I was in the hospital...I'm okay with reciprocating but...how do you love me?"

"Because your my dream cookie girl." Is all he says before he heads for the door.

"Bye assistant boy." I say before grabbing our plates and taking them to the kitchen.

I head to my bedroom ready to pass out when I hear a noise from down the hall.

"This is the part of the movie where I go to see what it is while people scream at me for being a moron isn't it?" I sigh before slowly heading down the hall to the far room where another noise comes from. I open the door only to find a study with a cat rolling around on the desk.

"Oh you!" I yell shaking my fist at the fluffy thing. I turn around heading back to my room stripping out of my clothes and into my pj's.

I hear the elevator door open as I pull my hair into a ponytail and head towards it thinking Sam was back.

"Hey Sam, did you forget something?" I ask looking up and scream when I see his nasty face.

"How did you get in here?" I ask. He smirks before holding his hand up a small silicone looking cap on his thumb. "It's sad really that you think I don't have your fingerprint after all that time we spent together, I'm slightly insulted actually." He says his hand on his chest.

"What do you want?" I ask.

"You, as per usual." He says smiling that nasty smile of his.

"I don't like you," I tell him crossing my arms trying to seem braver than I feel.

"Any reason why Auggie?" He asks tilting his head like a confused dog.

"Really Rex? I guess its just that you give off this really freaky vibe like, "hey here I am, ready to ruin your life and kill everyone around you", and it really just sets me off! I'm tired of hiding from you!" I yell my hands shaking from my sudden burst.

"No need to hide, you've been found." He says rushing me pressing a cloth to my mouth as his hands run up and down my body. I hold my breath and try pushing him away try digging my nails into his arms anything I can to get him off but the sickeningly sweet smell soon fills my senses just as I close my eyes.

"Nighty night pet." He says as I fade from consciousness.

My name is Augustine Anne Allen.
I know, too many As but it's my moms favorite letter so obviously she wasn't going to give up the chance to use the letter to its fullest potential. I'm a top selling novelist in my field which is the making everyone cry field as my editor says. I am as my overly dramatized bio says a writer who grips your heart rips it from your chest, sets it on a plate and makes you eat it by the handful. Gross but rather adequate.

My social life is a little lacking...okay a lot lacking but I mean you can't expect a best selling novelist who doesn't even leave her house to go grocery shopping to have a life! I mean come on! If you can't even find a decent man in the grocery store so why bother? I should also tell you I'm weary of men, I mean yes my stories are fiction and most of what I write doesn't reflect my past but I still have a problem with them and the thought of the "L" word. I feel like it's all a sham like the elusive thing called love is much like the elusive unicorn and just flat out doesn't exist.

Cynical view of the world, yes. But my heart will never be broken and scattered like poor Laura Wolf the leading lady in my latest best seller but unlike her, mine wasn't so literal.

This is me and my life as a Unicorn.

Or as a friend once said: An ugly rainbow farting narwhal with legs.
