“Good morning, Seattle. My name is Jay Sana, and last night my colleague, Mrs. Isabella Sana, traveled to the decimated building in Alaska to find what remains. Isabella, what did you find?”
“-- Thank you, Jay. When I first pulled up to the snowy grounds of this disclosed area, it felt almost post-apocalyptic. There was a smoky gray powder raining down from the sky that clouded my view of the building, but it still was right in front of me as clear as the painfully bright snow. The ceiling was completely blown off and torn to nearby orbiting pieces, and many of the walls rest nearby. The building was blown up like an overblown balloon.
“It’s been difficult to find any evidence of people working here previously. There is no record online of this building existing, yet there was something here that caused an explosion.”
Isabella Sana tapped a device in her ear, listening carefully to whatever voice came out of it.
“-- Is something wrong, Isabella?”
“-- We have to leave. Right now-”
Sounds of an explosion could be heard from Isabella’s microphone feed.
“-- Isabella? Isabella!”

Jay Sana did not leave the studio.
He did not go to sleep.
He sat in the soundproof recording room alone, huddled in the corner with his motionless hands covering the headphones over his ears.
He waited for his wife to come home. He at least anticipated a message from Alaska.
How did this happen? He thought. Why her?
The door into the recording studio slowly creaked open, and a colleague of Jay’s tip-toed inside and sat down on the floor next to him.
“Feeling better, Jay?”
He stayed silent, his attention still waiting to hear words come out of the headphones.
“Listen, man, it’s been two days now. How about I drive you home, and we can come back tomorrow and check back in?” He patted Jay’s shoulder and offered a hand to help him stand up. “How does that sound?”
Jay met eyes with him, and it was the first time the colleague had seen him so sad. Jay was the happiest man he had ever met, and to see him so broken tore a piece of the world away.
“Do you think someone did this to her on purpose?” Jay asked.
“No, of course not! I think what happened-”
“That’s the thing, Sam. I don’t want to theorize this time, I just want to know. I want to know what happened to my wife, is that so much to ask?” His head dropped into his lap, afraid of how much emotion that came out of him.
Sam looked down at him, digging his hands in his pockets. “Sometimes the only thing a man can do is ask. They ask and they wonder what they can find when they don’t even know of all the things they can do.”
Jay looked up, and locked eyes with Sam once more.
“What do you say we go look for her?” Sam asked.
Before he could answer, the explosion had reached their building.

“Good evening, Seattle. My name is Samuel Wilson, and today we have a very important story.
“As you all know, there has been a dispersing chemical that has wreaked havoc across nearly the entire globe now. As more and more victims wake up, they have come to discover that they return to the world stronger than before. People have awoken with powers.
“On January 2nd, a man named Clint Kane was caught flying out of his hospital bed - yes, flying - and soared into the skies uncontrollably until he was found unconscious on the grounds of Golden Gardens Park. He was reported later that day to be fine but tripped after landing and hit his head. On January 5th, a woman named Barbara Anderson woke up from a coma and ran out of the hospital at the speed of a cheetah, and was seen several times running around the streets of Seattle, slipping between cars in a blur.”
After a pause, Wilson continued.
“On January 8th, Jay Sana woke up with the ability to take away other people’s injuries. He spent the rest of that day helping others in the hospital recover from their comas… including his wife, Isabella Sana.”
“An expert guessed near 48% of the explosion’s victims will have powers based on recent evidence, and those power-less seem to be unharmed from the explosion beside a few bruises from getting knocked off their feet. Those with powers can be seen with anything and everything, so we now live in a world of wonder.
“What is to be determined is the intentions of some of these superpowered individuals.”
