Rindou stood next to Azrael, confused on what just happened.
They were standing alone in the grassy plains much farther south than the wintery mountains they were just in. Thinking back now, with a clear mind, Rindou could put things together.
With Ba'Von having just disappeared from the group during a fierce snowstorm, the three had pressed on following Vlalan's directions to the corpse of the General Ott. Upon arriving at the huge stone doors, Vlalan stated that he'd use magic to get them out of there. Once inside, it was a straight path down several fleights of stairs finally to a huge stone rectangle slab in the center of the room on a raised dias.
Vlalan had moved forward to push off the lid when it had sprung open itself. An icky skeleton covered in maggots and rotting flesh had crawled out, laughing insanely. The skeleton took a swipe at Vlalan chanting in some ancient language. Azrael had run forward to help Vlalan fight, but was shoved back into Rindou. Seconds later, Vlalan was knocked out on the ground and the flesh returned to the skeleton.
General Ott.
Azrael and Rindou both stood up quickly and started to run away. A flash had surrounded them and the next thing they knew, here they were. Standing in the grassy safe plains with bugs and flowers around them, untouched by humankind for several years.
Rindou looked to Azrael as he fell to his knees.
"This is the battle ground I fought on..." Azrael mumbled. Rindou thought quietly before patting Azrael. "What?"
"Let's go get that oath thing."
Azrael blinked, "I thought you didn't want to help me?"
"The sooner I get you out of my hair the sooner I can get Kura."
Silence went around them again, neither moving in the warm sunlight.
"You love him?" Azrael asked. Rindou sat down near him. "If you didn't, you wouldn't bother to save him."
"It's got nothing to do with that." Rindou stated, resting his head in his palm. "He promised me something and I intend to make him keep it is all."
Azrael smiled. Rindou's cute pouting face said it all. He missed Kura and was definately in love with him.
"I think I can manage you a favor," Azrael nodded.
"Huh?" Rindou looked to him.
Azrael shrugged, "I think I get how it works... If I'm brought back, so was Ott. So, if I leave, so does he."
"So? You have an oath."
"The oath was canceled when I died," Azrael explained. "Why else would it need to be renewed?"
"Uh...."
"Exactly." He nodded. "Give me an hour or so and I should be able to whip up a spell."
"For...?"
"A path to heaven."
Rindou blinked, even more confused. "I don't understand you! I thought you wanted to reseal that oath thingy."
"I don't want to do it on account of taking the soul from someone else." Azrael answered angrilly. "It's not right on any level. I don't want to be a paracite."
"....you heard?"
Azrael just nodded, a sad look on his face.
"Sorry." Rindou looked away, "I know you want to see the world at peace, huh, Azrael?"
"If Amphitra and her sibling can't get along, then maybe... In heaven, we can find the highest being who can let them rest for a bit."
Neither said a word for a few hours. Finally, near dusk, with the sound of the crows, Azrael sang: "I'm done~"
Rindou sat up from playing with a flower. "Huh?"
"Want to head to heaven now?" Azrael asked, looking to Rindou with a smile.
"S-sure.."
"To save your beloved?"
Rindou looked away with a blush on his face, "Just do it already, pest."
A giggle came from Azrael's throat before he clapped his hands together. Upon pulling his hands apart, a small door fell and landed on the grass, enlarging to a good three yards by five yards doorway.
"Hmm.. I thought it'd be fancier somehow," Rindou stated, standing up.
"Shut up. It's a back door." Azrael pouted, pulling up the door, revealing and dark stairwell.
"And why's it going into the earth? You sure this isn't hell?"
"It's heaven. Now get in!" Azrael kicked Rindou's butt, shoving him face-first down into the darkness before he followed.
